Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I think the ambidextrous gold thumb buttons on the sides are the toggles for switching the rotating barrel from stun to kill. I think the trigger is still supposed to be where you'd normally expect it, it's just not actually there, because they'd just mime it as you said.

Thanks for pulling the multiquotes, was too lazy to try and do so on the phone. According to the link below that reviews the QMx replica "The button on the right side is to spin the barrel, and the button on the left (for your thumb) is the trigger". It goes on to joke that everyone in the Federation must be right handed but I'd assume the buttons could be programmed to work the other way.

I like how there's an "official" motorcycle on the Franklin.

Were there any crew quarters in the secondary hull of any the original Enterprises?

So it seems the Franklin might pre-date the NX-01, it is described as being the first Warp 4 ship.
I'm taking the 1st warp 4 ship part with a grain of salt. Afterall, pre-release promotional stuff back in '09 referred to the Jellyfish as being "The Fastest Ship" with a max speed of Warp 8.

It's like someone took Michael Wiley's Enterprise cutaway and maybe saw mine too, put them in a blender and added loads of cool stuff. I love it very, very much. It's about time! :D

Also, Krall is the name of the species, not Idris Elba's character specifically? And the USS Franklin's backstory further muddies the rather screwy early warp history of Trek. The Phoenix breaks the warp barrier (ST: First Contact), the Bonaventure is "the first ship to have warp drive installed" (TAS: "Time Trap"), then we have the NX-Alpha and Beta which break warp two (ENT: "First Flight"), the USS Franklin is the first warp 4 ship (ST: Beyond) and finally the warp 5 Enterprise NX-01.

I'm guessing the Franklin got where it was due to a warp engine imbalance creating a wormhole. That's my technobabble speculation excuse, anyway :)

If the rumors were true for Orchis script of Kirk n crew, vulcsns, & 3rd alien race all racing to obtain a time travel device so vulcans could stop the destruction of their planet by Nero that script sounded very poor even worse than STID.......

A gimmick w Nimoy n Shatner meeting their counter parts couldn't save that

Was very happy to hear studio thought same n changed
Interesting, haven't heard what Orci wsa going to do in such detail before..

So... why is the Franklin uniform we see Spock wearing the same as the Yorktown uniform we've seen loads of extras in Dubai wearing, if the Franklin is a long lost ship?

Looks different to me.

That new diagram should put to rest the issue of whether or not the nacelles are angled. I gotta say, it does wonders for the look of the nacelles, which was my only real gripe with how the nu-Enterprise looked before.

Those cross sections are great. I would love to get that as a big wall poster to go with Enterprise-D cross section poster.
