Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Wrath_zpsqnykafoc.jpg

That's from Wrath of Khan. :D
I was running out of footage.

While I do like the new trailer, I think the new Enterprise design is a lot worse than in the previous two movies:

You can't polish a turd. At least the lighting of the interior has been darkened. I mourned the loss of the refit in Trek III but will celebrate the loss of the nu-Prise in Beyond. It would be interesting to get a truly candid opinion from Pegg or Lin on how they really feel about the design. I would not be surprised if they decided to trash the ship just to get a chance to design something better (not unlike the decision to trash the D to make a more 'cinematic' Enterprise when TNG went to the big screen.)

Of course, if they keep the same production designer from the other movies then any future Enterprise will look just as crappy.

I've always liked the new Enterprise designs. :nyah:
Of course I came to the party late and the JJ's Enterprise was the first one that stuck in memory as that is when I became a fan. I went back and watched TOS of course, but still liked the new Enterprise better.

To be honest: While I have a lot of problems with the two Abrams movies, the new Enterprise design was none of them.

I know I'm probably alone with it, but I really like the JJverse Enterprise design. On the outside. The inside was a bit generic "apple-future-space"-look, and I'm annoyed that she is bigger than the Enterprise-D (even though the windos-size doesn't support this, only the way-too-big-shuttlebay).

I think the original design by Ryan Church is awesome. The proportions are all a bit "off", but it's in a visual interesting way. The only problem is that she was photographed very badly in Trek09, where we saw only frame-breaking close ups that distorted the proportions even further. But once Into Darkness arrived, an else rather miniscule movie, they finally allowed us to see the whole ship once in a while. And she looks quite beautiful there!

So I'm a bit sad to see 1) a "refit" that destroys the previous symmetry of the desing and 2) bein her blown up in the first act of the new movie. Not a nice thing to do to our old friend...

Except the redesign after the finale.
Well, it was bound to happen. We agree on this point and you're not alone in this fact. I think the Abrams Enterprise is a beautiful design, very future looking, while having a unique profile that distinguishes it from other ships, including Starfleet vessels.

I love all the "reveal" shots of the Enterprise in both films, though my favorite is right before it goes to warp to Vulcan and the emerging from the atmosphere of Titan. Interior design questions aside, I really enjoy the look of Abrams Enterprise.

I think they're looking at the Enterprise-A. :)

Agreed think n Hope this at end w them looking at New E. Then final scene on new E heading back out - Kirk Spock McCoy w goid lines thenn Kirk ordering set course to "X" warp factor whatever
Then space. ....the final frontier. .....

These have been my issues with the Jprise:

Too much ridiculous piping/plumbing inside.

The main sensor array is too bright and gaudy. We have a musical snowman with a snowflake in his belly that lights up, pulses, and rotates. Somehow it immediately reminds me of that.

The warp nacelles....over 30 years ago, I sketched a weird version of the Enterprise that was comprised of 3 doomsday machines plus a saucer section. When I first saw the Jprise, my immediate reaction was "Holy crap, they've got 2 of my 3 doomsday machines!" :guffaw:

The look of the support pylons and the mounting location....there was a panel in one of the old Marvel or DC comics that must have been done under rushed conditions or something. The Enterprise looked like absolute crap....and the support pylons looked virtually just like that. :(

You know, it would be OK in a way, but it another way, it would be almost too cute. It fit in TVH given the history of the Enterprise and her crew. By that time, the producers (and fans) could get by with that kind of sentimentality. Here, it would feel as shoehorned in to me as some felt about Spock screaming, "Khan!" was.

I'd like to think they're just staring "up" into space, contemplating what will happen next. Then, they all break out into singing, "Row, row, row your boat..." as the camera pans back and the closing credits roll. :D

I'm sure people are already preparing to scream about how Beyond opening up with Kirk being less than happy about his birthday is ripping off TWOK again.
