Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

The quality of the image is terrible the phone taking it must be from the 90's, the stardate listed would be the prime universe's Enterprise-A commission date, the plaque looks shopped, etc

Stardate is still totally wrong, looks knocked up for decoration. Show me a screencap of both separate Enterprise's from the movie and I'll agree with you.

And she's the third starship to bare the name in this universe's Federation. Robert April's comic ship, the current one, then a new one. She'd be the 1701-B if they were using that system.

Yeah, a lot of these effects appear to be inspired by what astro-scientist's, who continue to be wrong, believe space travel could look like, but it lacks a lot of right brain style.

The visual effects in Interstellar were exactly what one would see around a wormhole and black hole. It's disingenuous to suggest they "continue to be wrong". You should provide evidence for this -- not the SFX people who thing they know what these look like, but theoretical physicists -- or back off your statement.

Note that the guy who worked out the equations for the FX in Interstellar is Kip Thorne, who will probably win the Nobel Prize this year for his role in the discovery of gravitational waves.

The warp effect in STB looks like Interstellar because they're trying to mimic those from Interstellar. I don't think the optics were derived from physical principles, though.

It *is* the Prime Universe Enterprise-A dedication plaque.

Scroll down the page. The Final Frontier was the film to actually feature it.
This is getting to be like the series of multiple Star Trek 2017 TV threads where some fans spill out their wishful theories about the series being in the prime universe. Like this thread, its now about the Yorktown, and Enterprise A as speculations. Just shows fans are desperate to make something that is not there onto these discussions.

Yeah, a lot of these effects appear to be inspired by what astro-scientist's, who continue to be wrong, believe space travel could look like, but it lacks a lot of right brain style. I remember watching a doc from one of those boring men depicting a large bubble ring - expanding through long distances where a satellite would travel into. After the doc, I thought it was a waste of an hour of my life, and I can see why many don't seem to care about space travel anymore. It's too scientifee, it needs some imagination.

So some photo comparisons from what we've seen in the new trailer.

Uhura's bridge console
First pic is the 2nd Beyond Trailer, second is Into Darkness, third is ST09. It looks to have a few cosmetic differences, most notably different (and A LOT less) lighting. There's a few differences on the console, but nothing major.

Enterprise corridor
First pic is 2nd Beyond Trailer, second is Into Darkness. It looks like they redid the ceiling for sure, and it might just be me, but it also seems like the lighting is warmer compared to STiD.

Impulse engines
First pic is 2nd Beyond Trailer, second is Into Darkness. Doesn't look like any major changes. It might be a trick of the lighting, but it looks like the center part of the neck that goes down might be flattened.

Saucer underside
First pic is 2nd Beyond Trailer, second is Into Darkness, and third is Into Darkness as well. Doesn't look like all that much major, but it does look like the phaser emitters are in a different configuration/there are more of them. Here's what I'm talking about pointed out.
EDIT: At the 0:9-0:10 part of the 2nd Beyond Trailer you get a nice flyby that indeed shows a different phaser emitter configuration.

Saucer upperside
First pic is 2nd Beyond Trailer, second pic is 1st Beyond Trailer, third pic is Into Darkness, fourth pic is Into Darkness. At first I thought the phaser emitters were also in a different place on top, but then I realized that the view in the 2nd Beyond Trailer is probably of the side of the saucer rather than the front. Still it looks like another phaser emitter might be closer by than would have been on the Into Darkness configuration. If so, it seems likely that the model used in the 1st Beyond Trailer wasn't entirely done being updated for the movie. Which given that none of the other graphics, doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. IDK, probably seeing things.
EDIT: The 1:05 mark of the 2nd Beyond Trailer shows a phaser emitter at a different spot of the upper hull saucer as well.

The changes remind me of the Enterprise-E in Nemesis. More phaser banks and the nacelle pylons were modified (both in Nemesis and Beyond) too

While I do like the new trailer, I think the new Enterprise design is a lot worse than in the previous two movies:

1. I was already annoyed with the much widened Impulse engine after at the end of Into Darknes, signifying a major refit of the ship. I hoped they would ignore it and make the impulse engines smaller again, like on every other Star Trek starship, but they kept them. It just doesn't look very elegant.

2. The backwards bent pylons look awful. They aren't very visible in the trailer, only in the shot of the Enterprise at warp and when it's in the docking tunnel to Yorcktown starbase. They worked in the TOS-era movies. But here, it just looks ugly and destroys the symmetry of the proportions of the Enterprise.

My favourite thing about the new trailer has to be the design of Starbase Yorcktown and the nw Warp bubble effect. Hands down.

I need a closer, cleaner look before I decide whether I like the changes or not.

Trailer round-up:

So for some reason the stats didn't show for me yesterday for the facebook sourced trailer, but now I've seen it. It's over 9.7 million views, 321,000 likes and almost 200,000 shares.

Big spoilers! Although most of us have already guessed it, someone snapped this at the fan event:
Enterprise NCC-1701-A dedication plaque

That's just a replica of the one used in the TOS-based movies. Nice piece of decoration for the party, though.

It makes me chuckle..the same people who criticized the first trailer..saying they now are going to see the movie...when the editing of the movie isn't going to change one bit because of the 2nd trailer being a smash hit.
I kind of feeling the same way. I'm happy the trailer is working and that people are feeling more in to the film, and more excited about it. That's great and I hope the film succeeds because of it. :techman:

But, while the first part of the trailer was great with Kirk and Bones talking and such, the last half felt very jerky and unoriginal. It reminded me too much of Rogue One, going from the pithy to the action with all the transition of shifting a car in to first from 5th.

Yup, I'm baffled by the reactions, but that's marketing for you.
