Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Sound's strange ... it feels like there's a word missing. Star Trek Beyond ... beyond what?

I think it's because it's not an adjective or noun (in the absence of a preceding "The"). Single-word movie titles usually use those parts of speech.

Even verbs, which are relatively unusual, are more common than adverbs and prepositions.

Am I the only person here who makes the connection that "Beyond" is the first word in Roddenberry's lyrics to the Courage theme?

Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.

Honestly, I find the title uninspired. But then, I seem to be the only person who feels the same way about The Force Awakens.

However, I am impressed we have an actual official title for the movie over a year prior to its release. With Abrams gone, his idiotic shroud of secrecy seems to have gone with him. Good.

Well at least he has rectified that with Star Wars. He;s let enough tidbits out 8 months before the SW 7 that I am quite satisfied to wait until opening night without any further information on the movie.

I think that has more to do with Disney calling the shots than it does with Abrams himself.

Possibly.

It will be about some megaship called the Beyond.

Then, the opening theme MUST have Bobby Darin singing "Somewhere" :techman:

Great Catch! :bolian:

Star Trek From Beyond, starring Jeffrey Combs
Star Trek From the Land Beyond Beyond, starring a Harryhausen cyclops

indeed, wouldn't have got that one. very nice catch

There must be a bunch of other 'Beyond' Trek connections in novels, comics etc

One of the DVD docs is called 'Beyond The Final Frontier' which might've worked for the movie? :vulcan:

The problem is, it's risky to give a movie a title that critics can easily twist into puns at the movie's expense. I can just imagine the negative review titles: "Star Trek Beyond Boring," "Star Trek Beyond Hope," "Star Trek Be-Yawned," etc.

Then again, I guess positive reviews could use it too: "Star Trek Beyond Expectations," "New Star Trek Light-Years 'Beyond' the Last," etc.

I wasn't a fan of Into Darkness and my friends and I still refer to it as "Into Dumbness."

Abrams is not gone. He and Bryan Burk (i.e. Bad Robot) are still producing the film. He's just not directing it this time.

This one actually makes sense to me. They did leave on the Five Year Mission at the end of STID, and Pegg has hinted that we'll see new stuff in this movie. So having "Beyond" in the title fits.

I've actually wondered about this. It seems Skydance Productions is much more front and center this time around.
