I would say that the combined Federation/Klingon forces at Wolf 359 probably opened fire on the Borg cube first and they retaliated! As we know from the later VOYAGER episodes, the Borg took many of the survivors aboard and converted them into drones! Were there any Romulan ships there because one of the survivors in Unity was a Romulan who had escaped from the Collective!

Ah, but how the hell were there survivors and how did they get back to the collective?? The single invading Borg cube itself was destroyed at Earth. [/can of worms]

I always wondered that! The Borg in Unity claim to have been taken from Wolf 359 so maybe the Borg sent out shuttles back to the Delta Quadrant with their captured quarry? That's really the only way they could have been in that battle and survived to tell the tale in the episode!

I wonder why they can't just set their new Trek in the future and create new characters? That way we can't complain or moan unless they directly change the continuity! I know we'll always find something to moan about in a new show but at least we won't be complaining for silly reasons!

I wonder why they can't just call their new-look, rewritten-continuity, updated-technology, modern-sensibilities series a reboot and play with the established characters without all the silliness of pretending it's a direct prequel to the sexist, low-tech 1960's original.

Example The Eyes of Zetar, McCoy and I think Kirk referring to a fellow officer, LT Mira Romaine as 'the girl', makes me cringe every time, might as well call LT Uhura 'the negress'

Watch TOS without the nostalgia goggles. I love it dearly, but it's a product of it's time. From Kirk grabbing his frightened yeoman on the bridge to the entirety of "Mudd's Women" to "I'm scared, captain!" to "Your world of starship commanders doesn't allow women"... it's the 1960's, made for a 1960's audience.

Whatever new fans think of it today, TOS is what kept us coming to the television set every weeknight for years back in the seventies and we still love it today!
