Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global at $218 M

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

No, raw.

Currently, Star Trek is 8th in terms of tickets sold ahead of Insurrection and will probably pass TUC and GEN this weekend.

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

I believe I read somewhere on opening weekend that Paramount's goal was 100 million worldwide....it will pass that this weekend and continue to earn international $$ in the weeks ahead.

This movie is a HUGE hit. None of the naysayers on here can put forth any credible arguments disputing that the movie is a huge financial success, has taken Trek to mainstream audiences, and has rebirthed Star Trek for the 21st century.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

im just cautiously optimistic :p I don't want to get excited just to have my joy snatched from me lol

Also, not really related to this topic but something I found interesting in the article

Meanwhile, in a marketing bonanza for the pic, up in the International Space Station, the 3 astronauts watched JJ Abrams reboot in space. It was beamed up to them Friday after being reformatted by NASA technicians. Turns out all 3 astronauts -- the American, Russian, and Japanese, are Trekkies. A “movie night” is a tradition on the station.
Glad to see many astronauts still consider themselves trekkies lol

they're Trekkies?! love it :D

oh and awesome dropoff numbers! go see it today people!

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

Gee, just think what it would be grossing if all the old Trek fans weren't boycotting it. ;)

Talk about boldly going.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

That's an amazing number for Saturday (and the weekend). This is fantastic news.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

This is amazing....most box office trackers were predicting 36-38 million max for the weekend...this movie continues to outperform!

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

Plus...most box office trackers were predicting the movie to do a MAX of 36-38 million this weekend...this movie continues to outperform expectations.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

I suspect it may even hit 43-45 million since I doubt the Sunday decline will be as large as predicted...just like last weekend, it will earn above expectations on Sunday..coming even closer to A&D's 48 million. This movie has legs!!

It hasn't been released everywhere, though its doing very well in the UK unsurprisingly.

I've reported several times that $100 million oversea's target after hearing it from several sources but am not sure we will break it this weekend but should do by the end of week 3.

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

This estimate could be quite larger after today. Last Sunday it outperformed the estimate by 3 million dollars. Why should this Sunday be any different? There is still a slight chance it could retain the #1 slot but I think it will barely miss it.

That the take is so close at all between the two speaks volumes to the limited appeal of Angels and Demons.

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

This is excellent news. A drop this small is a sure sign that Star Trek does indeed have the legs to hit $200 Mil and well beyond. This has to be one of the smallest 2nd week drops ever for a major Blockbuster.

Even had the initial estimate of $38 been accurate there's no way Trek wasn't passing $200 million. Right now is suspect something in the neighborhood of $235-$242.

Great news! Could not be better.

However, I think we are going to have some very frustrating news about international box office grosses. A&D is said to have done spectacularly around the world, which could be a huge hit to an already squishy Trek international reception.

Yeah, Da Vinci Code made $152 million internationally its first weekend (on top of its $77 million domestic). Even if A&D underperformed DVC, it probably still made well over $100 million.

Are you reading THIS thread indranee??? This thread only proves my point that JJ knows what he is doing, and doesn't need your, or my, advice.

Bow to me...you will sooner or later.
