Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global Nears $200M

The weekend estimate for Star Trek's domestic box office is $43 million, bringing its estimated domestic gross to $147.6 million. This represents an 42.8% drop from its opening weekend. This is a fantastic number following a huge opening weekend. Trek easily weathered the opening of Angels & Demons, which underperformed with $48 million.

Trek had an amazing 55.5% increase from Friday to Saturday, eclipsing the 1.3% increase from its opening weekend.

Note that the $43 estimate is based on a 29.6% Sunday decline. In its first weekend, Trek only experienced a 22.7% Sunday decline. If Sunday does better than expected, the final number could be anywhere from $1-2 million more.

This is better than the 48.1% drop Iron Man experienced on its second weekend (down to $51.2 million) and in line with the 43.4% drop Batman Begins had (down to $37.6 million). Also, Wolverine dropped 69% on its second weekend down to $26.4 million (a sizable $17 million less than Trek).

The total worldwide box office is over $217.9 million ($147.6 domestic + 70.3 international).

The problem is that Iron Man had a $20 million head-start from the first week in the US alone. It's such a shame Star Trek has failed to appeal outside the US.

Yeah, unfortunately, Trek won't get anywhere near Iron Man's $582 million global take, but it could get near Batman Begins $372 million global take...which I think we all can agree would be just fine.

Should cross $150 million by Monday, it's 11th day in release.

Also, it looks like there's a really good chance Trek will be #1 on Sunday. Based on the estimate, A&D is projected to make $12.4 million, while Trek is projected to make $12.2 million. If Trek is even a little bit underestimated, like last weekend, it could make closer to $13 million or more.

Thanks for the info. Great news.

No doubt Similitude will be on here claiming this is somehow bad.

Real happy with these numbers. The franchise is back in a big way. I think the next movie , and you just know there will be a next movie , will be a much better movie with a much better plot and main villain. I am shocked that this 2nd weekend went so well. I thought Angels and Demons would take over and ST would make around 25-30 million , which still would have been a good take. Next weekend will be not as good with Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum 2 coming out. I wonder how well Salvation will do , NATM will do real well with the kiddies. I think the fact that T:S is PG13 will save its ass. That and Bale.

WOW, really great numbers. Another Nemesis in its second weekend!!! Thats nearly 4 Nemesisises! :D

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

And, as of yesterday...Star Trek is the highest grossing Trek movie in franchise history, passing TVH's 109.7 million.

Great news! I went with my brother on Saturday so glad we added to the totals a little. So close to beating out Angels and Demons to bad it did not happen as it would have been cool to be number 1 for two weeks!

These numbers are very disappointing.

;)

The only thing haters can say about the new Trek movie now is pretty much the hollow "This movie sucks"

Re: Star Trek - $42M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $147M - Global Nears $200M

I think it'll hit between 300-350m worldwide. That is fantastic that it was 7-8m behind a new release this weekend.

FLOP!

This is excellent news. A drop this small is a sure sign that Star Trek does indeed have the legs to hit $200 Mil and well beyond. This has to be one of the smallest 2nd week drops ever for a major Blockbuster.

Re: 42 Million 2nd Weekend Take!

*Fist Pump*

Like I said in the other thread, truly excellent news.

It's such a shame Star Trek has failed to appeal outside the US.

Who said? It's #1 nearly everywhere, isn't it?

Number 1 in many of its oversea's openings and is set to break $100 million worldwide, something no Trek movie has ever done. Trek had a easier job domestically because it only needed to repair its own image to people but worldwide it needed to build one still but $100 million+ is not bad for a new start it will only get bigger in a sequel.
