Star Trek 2017 will not be set in the JJ-Verse

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the thread starter, it is I, FYRE, who way, way back in November of 2015, knew that the new Star Trek series would be set in the Prime Timeline.

For those who need confirmation from Bryan Fuller, showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery, please see http://io9.gizmodo.com/star-trek-discovery-officially-takes-place-in-the-prim-1784196830

I would like to invite all the haters, the doubters, the cynics, and the know-it-alls, to have a piece of humble pie.
Have this.

Ship registry number means nothing at this point. Just have a look at this:
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/NCC
There were plenty of ships with lower numbers in both TOS and TNG era.

I was looking at that section yesterday at the website yesterday. Yeah, a few had lasted a long time longer than 30 to 40 years (most are retired/decommisioned somewhere between 30-40 years). I guess that some (with the lower numbers) gets a new warp core a few times (every 20-25 years) and other major upgrades to replace the old ones to keep it going for another 60 or 80 years.

Prime/classic universe - the writers can't possibly be creative when limited to only ONE universe you guys, universes are so tiny & restrictive in size - oh wait.

I still dislike 'memes' in general, and I hate that particular one with passion because of the discussions here.

But it made me smile to see the yep.

Now if the digital world could just send one an hour for three days, after every longish reasoned post made by anyone who ever used that damn thing, finally, they might grasp the annoyance level.

Er, no, we don't have to be humble for jack shit about what you said. You just made a guess. You had a 50-50 chance of being right. It's not like you had any inside information, so stop acting like you are entitled to some reward from us.

Actually he had a 33.3 percent of being correct, as 'third universe and another reboot' was also mooted. You can go even lower if you throw in 'wont get made and be cancelled before shooting' and definitely cut those odds with 'remain vague and never say which timeline' as some mooted.
The inside knowledge he had was called 'paying attention to details, thinking logically, a little bit of faith and a chunk of obeying wheatons law's
The anti prime people, (some of them not all) were damned rude a chunk of the time, somewhere in the range of religious zealots and Dawkins loving atheist fundamentalists.
So...I will join in the smug 'i was right' dance, as someone else who calmly described why prime made perfect sense (especially as the evidence increased...the Kelvin timeline being named as such for instance) and had the vitriol responses too
Perhaps the taste of humble pie will linger long enough for people not to descend into playground antics next time this kind of debate comes up.
Canon cream with that pie anybody?

1. Yeah, that's not going to happen.

2. So the OP can descend into playground antics but none of the rest of us can. Got it.

Well, I was wrong. Looks like it will be in the prime universe after all. Now what do we discuss?

So, it was 50/50 then? Not the impossibility of the Prime timeline that some know-it-alls were stating? Fascinating ;)

Mr Awe

It was really annoying and discouraging the way certain people were dismissing the idea of returning to the Prime timeline. I'm glad Fuller is taking us back there. I think there was enough of a divide between those who wanted to stick to the JJVerse and those who wanted the Prime universe that it justifies having both exist at the same time. I'd like to think it's the best of both worlds. Everyone got what they wanted. Those who didn't care one way or another were never going to be disappointed.

Actually, technically the odds were 33/33/33 between Prime universe/Abramsverse/rebooted universe. But the OP specifically stated that (he guessed) the new show would take place in the prime universe as opposed to the Abramsverse. So it was 50/50.

But as far as gambling odds go, if I were betting money on which universe the new show would have taken place in, I would have bet the Abramsverse every time. Why? Because when any franchise is rebooted, in almost every instance it is a new version of an old continuity. The Abramsverse was the new kid on the block and is making money hand over foot. The Prime universe was losing money hand over foot. Logically, which one would you have picked?

Let's not kid ourselves, like all of the previous productions, Fuller is going to keep/jettison stuff from the Prime Universe as he sees fit, to the point that I'd bet a lot of the people currently happy about it being in the Prime Universe will be bitching about how STD ignores canon in a year's time.
