Star Trek 2009 script

I was kind of shocked to find the script. I had read that due to some rule that they had or something that it wasn't going to be released, but then there it was. I was also surprised at the bad language in the movie, not that I can't handle it, but I was surprised nonetheless. Also the Ayel and Nero dynamic was surprising not to mention something that Spock did that was kept out of the movie...very good read.

It's weird. Spock going back in time on purpose (opening a second black hole after failing to save Romulus) would seen to negate the whole alternate reality thing. He's changing history to save Romulus.

Yet, in the Vulcan classroom at the start, it's said "anything that can happen does happen, in equal and parallel universes"

Huh.

I was going to say your observation would seem to put pay to my theory that the alternate universe idea was a fairly late addition to the film, but perhaps not.

It could be that question you mention was initially just something to put in Spock's test. Then, much later, someone remembered that comment and said: "Hey, why don't we set this movie in one of those parallel universes so we don't destroy the Prime timeline? But how are we going to get Spock Prime and Nero there ...". :)

But in this version they did destroy the prime timeline! Spock failed to stop the supernova and decided to travel back in time and try again. So the entire galaxy must have been destroyed.

No, just Romulus. He opened the second black hole, not knowing how far back it would send him (or even if he would survive) to give Romulus another chance.

I wonder what the shooting script said? JJ was tinkering with the mind-meld scene as late as two weeks before the films' release.

This script also features another psycho turn by Spock - instead of melding with an unconcious Romulan on board Narada, he tortures him for info under Kirk's orders. Way glad they cut that.

Oh, and I loved the Spock's World novel reference!

I get the impression that having Spock fall into the black hole BY ACCIDENT was a modification to the shooting script, probably intended to give Spock a stronger sense of remorse and to give Nero's rage a bit more legitimacy.

See, if Spock meant to use the black hole to travel back a few weeks and stop the supernova then, then NERO is to blame for screwing up Spock's trajectory and catapulting them both into the distant past, and he's also a complete dumbass for failing to realize what Spock was trying to do. While Spock, on the other hand, still feels guilty for failing to save Romulus despite the fact that his time travel plan WOULD have worked and the only reason it didn't is because of Nero being a dumbass; his feeling remorse over Romulus' destruction makes him look like a spineless sap with a victim complex.

The script has been available online since the movie came out. There have been threads on it here before. It pretty much became available a couple months after the film was released. There are some interesting scenes. I personally like the scene where Shatner would have appeared.
