*glances at location* oooh, a beautiful region! Full of Moorhen, Feegles and Immortals ;-) LOL, sorry - couldn't resist to bring up the stereotypes. Being Eastern Bavarian I find myself on the receiving end of prejudices/stereotypes all the time. Everyone always thinks we wear leather pants, yodel all day and climb mountains for fun (that's just the Upper Bavarians. There are 6 other Bavarian peoples besides them. And as far as the climbing is concerned, a Bavarian proverb states that one should preferably see mountains from the bottom, churches from the outside and pubs from within).

Or did you refer to the 7 Bavarian peoples?
Those are Franconians (Franken), who divide themselves up into Upper- Lower- and Middle Franconians (Ober-, Unter- und Mittelfranken), Swabians (Schwaben, puuuurely coincidentially a slang word for cockroaches) and Old Bavarians (Altbayern) which consist of Upper and Lower Bavarians (Ober- und Niederbayern) plus Upper Palatinates (Oberpfälzer).
I'm an Upper Palatinate by birth and have been living in Lower Bavaria for 20 years now: they need the development aid

Way below the fold -in small print- the papers ran a strange little story the other day: us Danes are the second-best non-native English speakers in the world -apparently... Now, what I want to know is how well do we write English?

amazing. I would have suspected the Dutch. I guess we germans rank quite low because over here all movies get not even subtitled but fully translated (including their titles), so that most people have never heard the original sound. In fact, I've never seen any Trek epi in the original. Hadn't I met some of the actors, I'd have no idea how they really sound. (which might be fortunate in some cases - Mr. Nimoy has a terribly strong accent)

Can't you choose the Originalton (hence my use of that particular word earlier) when watching them on a TV-set? I know you can't if you watch German TV via satellite, but I was under the impression that you could do it when receiving the signal from land based transmitters or cable...

no, unfortunately they hardly ever transmit 2 sound channels. Usually it's only the German one to save bandwidth
