Basically CBS doesn't want to make Trek Movies and is happy to let Paramount make them though I did read somewhere that Paramount owns the Movie Rights to a large extent and that CBS basically just gets a cut of the Profit of the Movie and that is what the Licence Fee is...
I imagine they're happy enough with his work as a producer - whatever that is.
It's not even necessarily a question of real conflict or bad feelings toward Orci (although it could just as well be; we don't know) - simply "This is iffy and we really don't know that this guy can pull it off. He's insisting on this story, so we have to part ways." Orci might have overplayed his hand there.
I could see thatOrci pitching something and Paramount being like that sounds Great we are not sure you can carry it off so, we want Lin to Direct and now Pegg and Co to Improve on your Idea....

In some cases, polish, revise and restructure the film to create the final cut.
Work with a distributor to secure distribution for the film. This may include showing the distributors the final cut of the film.

The admins there (a few of which I am suspicious are just Para's duals) do a lot of self-editing, usually when they get caught being exceptionally stupid.
