No wonder the rest of the world laughs at Star Trek fans - they think we treat the show like its the fucking bible and every word like the gospel.
Oh, they don't just think we do--we really, truly do.

The TMP ship was a result of GR stating that the old 1701 would look silly on the big screen. That's why it was redesigned.
Wasn't that more of how Bob Wise described the ship from the series? He also felt the same about the uniforms.
It would be funny if that were true that he felt that way about the uniforms Because now Abrams is basically giving us the original uniforms. And it is cool again!!!
I'm with jon1701 !!
If you're not going to accept the new film for what it is, then go back to your basement and watch TOS dvd's. Over and over and over....

Fashions in cinematography, lighting, costuming, sets, etc are cyclic. Primary colours on the widescreen were uncool in 1978/79.
You say that as if it is a bad thing. They are literally laughing at canon.
Dammit, stop trying to use logic! For some people logic has no place in their canon...^
^^The very idea that "Star Trek itself must be rejected because it is inconsistent with the canon established by Star Trek" is enough to make all of these get stuck in a self-destructive circular logic loop:
