ST Uncharted

I tend to agree. The sad state of online journalism today is lamentable enough. It's worse that there are so many fans gullible enough to believe this wholesale. I've found that generally speaking things that seem too good to be true often are exactly that: Too good to be true.

Like Reagan said, "Trust, but verify."

Good ol' SyFyWorld always did their journalistic due diligence. ;)

Series V Casting Sheet.

;)

Seriously? This is all you can come up with? A 15-year-old story of one of the very few mistakes that the site made during the days it was a rumor site?

If you're going to find a reason to poke someone, at least find something a little more recent. Possibly something in this decade (which we're five years into).

SyFy World, and later SyFy Portal, was a massive news and rumors site, that had a track record far beyond many others who reported the same type of news. Although it moved away from spoilers about the time the SyFy brand was sold, it had an accuracy rate well above 95 percent.

In fact, our last two major spoilers it reported was who the final Cylon was (which no one else had) in "Battlestar Galactica," and the fact that the series would end in present-day New York City (both stories had many calling us crazy and messed up). Yet, we were right that it was Ellen Tigh, and BSG did indeed end in present-day NYC.

One of our last rumors we reported before the change over to Airlock Alpha (where we got away from rumors) was the fact that "Dollhouse" was going to be renewed for a second season. Nobody believed us. Even a ratings site that claimed to have some magic all-knowing formula told us we were wrong, but yet, we were right. It was renewed, against all odds. And we were the ONLY ones reporting it.

Were we always right? No. Did we sometimes get things wrong? Of course. But that was the thrill of reporting on rumors.

But I will say that we have published thousands of stories since then ... and yet, when you go to dig something up and try to laugh at us, all you can find is a story that predates Facebook (and MySpace), and was out there during a time that "Star Trek: Voyager" was still a very recent memory, the most recent film was "Star Trek: Insurrection," and William Shatner was barely able to qualify for senior citizen discounts.

So go at it.

I've written a fan fiction called Star Trek: Phasers Fucking Everywhere, and CBS said it was "the best Star Track we've ever read".

You know, if the guy has a shot, more power to him, but up to now the only source for this story is him. So I'm not paying any more attention until after this purported meeting takes place.
Quoted for truth. :)

Thing is, neither Paramount or CBS will ever publicly state what pitches they have taken, in the process of, or plan to take. Their PR policy is not to say anything (as some of you here I'm sure already know). If anyone contacts them, they will not give out that information. Sometimes, if you know someone that works for them you may hear some chatter about something, but it's obviously not official. They will only announce something when a deal is already in place.

So in this case, you either believe MGummelt or you don't. He can prove it if he has some official letter from Paramount that he can show us, unless this was all done via phone calls.

In that case I'll come right out and say it: I don't believe Gummelt. Not based on just what little information has been released and blown out of proportion by bloggers pretending to be diligent journalists. :)

EDIT: To add, I don't think Gummelt is necessarily lying, but I also don't know that I believe that he isn't just misconstruing things because he just plain doesn't know any better.

There are always leaks. If there's a pitch for a new series, it will get out on way or another.

True

In this case, right now, people who are look for verification from Paramount are not going to get it. There may be leaks, sure, but it will still lead everyone to the land of speculation until something official is presented.

This isn't even a blip on Paramount's radar.

They've got the domain name and all they had to put up with was one really annoying Star Trek fan for an hour at lunch.

Melllvar is probably really jealous right now.

But the leak was Gummelt himself. Wouldn't Paramount have told him to keep his mouth shut about this project until such time that it starts to actually get produced?

Maybe that's why we have not heard from him since about the issue. He has an account here after all.

But I'm pretty sure Paramount didn't say "tell anyone else you want about this, but don't mention it at the TrekBBS."

If this really is just about getting the domain, why would they care if he leaked it?

In fact, it's pretty clever on his part if that's the case. He gets all this hype and coverage. He may not get a Star Trek show out of it but maybe he can use it in other ways and open other doors for himself.

Exactly - he's got himself a meeting at the studio. Congratulations for the initiative to capitalize on an opportunity.

And he didn't even have to run a bunch of misleading Kickstarters to do it. ;)
