I'm not sure why "wormhole" would be an age-inappropriate term, but it was a pretty obscure term at the time. In physics and in science fiction, wormhole theory was a moribund field until Carl Sagan asked Kip Thorne to develop a credible FTL mechanism for his novel Contact. The use of the term in TMP was quite rare for the period. Maybe the record changed it to a more recognizable term, since without the visuals, it would've been unclear what a "wormhole" was supposed to be. As for the placement of the Memory Wall sequence, it was supposed to go where the "Spock Walk" is in the final film. That sequence was created to replace the Memory Wall sequence when it proved unviable.
Sorry for being AWOL. Life and work (are the two equivalent?) have kept all of us that are working on the site occupied. I'm pleased to report, though, that everything is progressing nicely. If all goes well, we will be live by the end of July.
Man, you guys don't miss a trick! Unfortunately, the malware ruined most of the images we had stored, so we're having to recreate them by hand. It's time-consuming, so our best estimate is that we'll be finished at the end of July 2011. The good news is that GoAnimate has allowed us to save a lot of time in recreating the lost images. Of course, they don't look exactly like they did before, but they're pretty close. This July, of course!
Thanks for clearing that up, alchemist. And no offense intended -- I just wanted to have my turn at a snarky post.
You're welcome. And absolutely no offense taken! I should have ended that last post with a Best, Dave
....what? End of July has come already?.... .... .... We've been betrayed! It's a lie! It's a scam! It's all a fraud!!!!! Alchemist! YOU LIED TO ME! YOU LIED TO US! You said it'd be ready at the end of July! As god as my witness, I will make YOU pay!
I messaged alchemist a few days ago. Part of his response: "We're really close." He said he'd speak to someone else called Curt and get back to me. Perhaps he'll post that response into this thread now instead.
I don't know why everyone's making such a big deal out of this. It's obvious that Alchemist has learned how to set release dates from the experts at Microsoft.
Gentlemen (or gentlewomen, as the case may be), this is a hobby project and the three of us can only work on the site in our spare time. And due to some unexpected major surgery and some other things, we've not been able to devote as much time to the site as needed. We're moving forward though. Your patience is really appreciated. Dave
Ouch! Sorry to hear about the surgery. And take all the time you guys need to do it right. We're a patient bunch. ... Well. I am, anyway. ... Okay ... time's up.
