You have to leave room for a slight margin of error. Honestly, the canon is only negligibly inconsistent. Imagine that every episode started with "Captain's Log, Stardate: FOUR RANDOM NUMBERS." That would be the show's biggest problem canon-wise, bigger than anything else you could name, and it wouldn't really matter to most people. To me, it would simply be a source of amusement. Instead of serving as a redundant sense of chronology as it does now, it would be, "ah, the familiar goofy intro that ruffles silly folks' feathers... ahhhh... I love this show!"

You'd probably do best to unwind a bit, re-prioritize. Star Wars' canon is like, "1. Death Star destroyed. 2. Death Star destroyed. 3. Death Star destroyed." In what, 9 movies? lol, keep Star Wars.

When technology improves a bit more, this might be casual. When watching a episode you'd select the Klingons you wish to see. TOS, TMP, TNG, STD, you choose.

Personally i'd love to see season one STD with TOS Klingons, entirely in English.

In TOS - Yes - and as a matter of fact a majority of the "aliens" looked like them too.

DISCO just needs to find its own path and stay away from fan service; allow the audience to decide what's consistent. Don't explain what other creators had done just move on and tell the stories they want to tell. And I expect new creators after should do the same.

Overly elaborate space battles?

Burnham nude (but covered up) in a bathtub with Saru washing her back?

Inclusion of popular species, characters and a ship from over half a century ago?

What fan service should a show avoid?

Not a problem, just nix Picard, Riker, Data, Troi, Seven, the Enterprise-D, Romulans, Borg.

Take what's left and form it into a strong and brave show that will pull tens of millions of viewers.
