TORPEDO BAY set which is better design:ST 2 Wrath Of Khan 1701-refit or ST 6 Undiscovered Country 1701-A ?

My choice: ST 2 WOK

I like the Torpedo Bay set from STAR TREK II The Wrath of Khan.
It makes more sense to me.
It looks better.
There is a gunnery crew.

It's just better.

We saw very little of the ST 6 set, so it's hard to evaluate it. The ST 2 set was great dramatically, and it fit with Nicholas Meyer's submarine-style motif, but as a "real" torpedo bay of the 23rd century, it was inefficient and made little sense.

I thought the TUC torpedo bay fit more with the submarine motif —as did the rest of the film —since it was far more cramped than the TWOK set.

The design of the torpedo bay in TWOK and the action that took place there was more Horatio Hornblower with the running out of the "cannons".

IIRC the Wrath of Khan torpedo bay was a re-dress of the TMP Klingon bridge set. I didn't think they built a full set for STVI. It looked like just a few walls, a console and a dark chute to me.

I'm gonna be difficult and say I prefer Malcolm's torpedo bay from the NX-01 Enterprise over both the movie ones :p

A bit of trivia - the TWOK torpedo bay was a redress of the Klingon Bridge from TMP.

The viewscreen became the torpedo loading hatch, while the two swiveling tactical stations from the rear of the Klingon ship were mounted on either side of the hatch. The back of the set was built from TMP airlock set where Kirk goes out on his spacewalk to find Spock. They also added the second level.

As far as I know the Trek VI set was built new. And the walls were pretty flimsy as Valeris causes one of them to shake when she slides down the pole. :)

One might argue they were the same structure, but cadet training ships would leave out the neat (and flimsy) vanity covers around the automated system, exposing the actual machinery and bracing structures. That way, the cadets could shut down the automation and perform manual maintenance and hands-on operations for training purposes.

ST VI a complete TORPEDO BAY room was built including control room area that Scotty inspected and loading chutes, one that Spock & McCoy loaded at the end of the movie.
