Sporepedia and Creature videos

I'm looking forward to playing around with the creature editor, from the footage I've seen it appears to be very flexible. Even with the limited selection of parts available in the free version I've no doubt it'll keep me amused for hours. Probably not till the full game comes out, though. ;)

The Creature Creator is $10 and on Amazon you get $5 off Spore when you buy it. And there is a free version coming out.

Sporepedia doesn't work for me. The page just keeps spinning. It may be because I'm checking it from work. Anyone else having this problem?

It works for me, though it spins for a few seconds before it loads up. And I see there's about 100 more creatures in there today then there were yesterday...

The official version of the trial Creature Creator is available here for both Mac and PC (seems to be identical to the leaked version from this weekend). The paid version apparently doesn't launch until tomorrow for some reason (I want more mouth parts already! )

Picked up the full version last night from some store in the UK. Uploading some of the fun stuff I made. But, youtube is a bit slow. I really like the way it modulates your voice based on the mouth and its size. They added a bunch of human parts, but making a convincing human is still tough.

Had to make a raptor. Clever Girl... one of my two favorites.

Huge Green Dragon... my other favorite

My first stab at it.

I think it came out pretty good. Going to have to get the full version of this to have all of the tools and options available.

What's really cool is that all the info for a creature is saved in the PNG file that goes into the Sporepedia... you just drag the PNG into the Creator Creator and it builds it up from there. Meaning these creatures are in ~5kb or less as embedded metadata!

Well, probably most people don't think that's cool, but I do ;)

The game is reporting over 85,000 creatures already uploaded (73,000 in the last 24 hours). Wonder who gets the fun job of policing that and doing quality control. It's only the first official day of release too. I wonder how many they are expecting by launch.

You can actually make a really tiny omnivore that has max speed, all abilities , and max all talents (except for about 4 spit)...without maxing out the complexity meter. With all the attachments, it'll look like a tiny mechwarrior. The combination is a bit tricky though. Only 151-dna currency left, so it's very expensive.

Hmmmm, I wonder if I could design some Lovecraftian aliens with this? Old Ones, Deep Ones, Fungi from Yugoth, etc.

No matter though. I'm downloading this puppy this evening when I can get at my PC. May be the greatest game ever.

I've maxed out with Speed, Health, Bite, Strike, Sprint, Charm, Glide, Jump and Sneak and still had some left, could have probably done spit but I don't care for the look of most of those attachments.

The creature of course looks like a mess of parts.
