I was thinking that might actually be the gravity generator for Starbase Yorktown.

Look at 1m 30s at the video. Remember the set pics, the crashed ship right on the steps of the embassy. The saucer edge had giant door like apertures. The first moment at the link is from right inside one of those openings, looking out. See the wall on the right edge of frame? People are running out of them into the SAME plaza seen from above in the other scene.

The difference between the crash site and the clean version is the passage of TIME. It's been cleaned up since the crash.

Back to the 'louvers', I believe their movement indicate Scotty's presence, if you know what I mean.

I think whatever that structure is (I'm leaning toward gravity generator or atmosphere processor) it's way too large to represent the Franklin, whose saucer is only about 138 feet across. Look at the buildings next to it for scale. Plus, the louvers are shaped differently than the greebles on the saucer and it has structures attached to it going out of frame.

^There's the fact that the structure you indicated has all three of those rings moving counter to one another in the trailer.

And the crashed edge set being built in Dubai implies the Franklin crashes nose first at an angle in an open pedestrian area, with the engines presumably being stuck up in the air.

Also, the structure there looks like it curves down to the ground, with windows. And the Federation logo facing out.

Pictures 2, 3 and 5 are <only> production artwork though, correct? We never saw finished design until trailer two?

There's also the Enterprise entering a tube thing when docking with the station, which implies its massive.

It's not the Franklin, it's not even a similar shape and far too big to be her, and it's in the middle of a public area looking like an office building. Oh wait!

To me the trailer version of the Franklin, look different then the concept art version. The bridge look smaller then concept art version, and the nacelles look like the same type and size of that of a Delta class starship, which some people call Neptune class. The film version and concept version still has the same basic design, you can very make out the ring grove near the outer edge of the saucer. It even look larger then concept art. Putting it about the same size and length as a Delta Class.

Well that was "concept art". No doubt the Franklin has experienced some frequent upgrades and evolution before meshes were built, and probably even during and after.

I've lost count of the things that have changed on the JJPrise in the last three movies - how many times has the bridge window changed height and scale? Now that Hollywood has completely abandoned practical filming miniatures, it's relatively easy to do.

Aye, even though there isn't a good look at it, I'l l bet that the movie iteration of the Franklin looks closer to the Kelvin aesthetic with some deliberate nods to the NX ,and kickass red lighting, as opposed to the concept art version. .

Now, I suppose I could try to guess which threads you mean. However, I suspect that—rather than "aping off of this one," as you suggest—those other threads (whichever ones they may be) were started without any awareness of this thread whatsoever, which is the way things usually tend to work.

Unless, of course, you'd care to personally handhold every single poster who's considering posting a new thread*, making absolutely certain that they first conduct an exhaustive search of the forum to ensure that they aren't duplicating an already-existing topic? A monumental task, that - better be sure first that you're up for it.

...How do you think she survived where the Enterprise clearly will not? She appears small enough that just three of those shredder drones or whatever should Swiss-cheese her for good. If the swarming folks aim to capture slaves or whatever, perhaps they went easy on the Franklin, knowing they'd get no captives otherwise. So she even gets to keep working weapons!

Or did she land first and get boarded only after that? She's conveniently flat where Kirk's ship is endowed. And it seems she's level on the ground at the mystery planet, and perhaps even attempts a landing rather than a docking at the starbase.
