*Spoilers* U.S.S. Franklin Design?

According to Memory Alpha, the NX Project was an attempt at breaking Warp 2. The project was in 2143. So, as the Enterprise was the first Warp 5 ship in 2151, I can narrow the Franklin's launch between 2143 and 2151.

The problem with that is that the Franklin is referred to as the "U.S.S." Franklin, the prefix of which wasn't given to Starfleet vessels until after the formation of the Federation per ENT. Of course, this could just be a mistake on the movie's part.

I'm glad someone also noticed that mistake too. cause weren't ships prior to the formation of the Federation have the S.S. designation?

No. Earth Starfleet ships were only referred to by their name, i.e. "Enterprise" or "Columbia," and their registry was also their class name, i.e. NX class ships had registries of "NX-01," "NX-02," etc.

My Mistake. thanks for the clarification. what i still don't understand is how the Franklin ended up encountering the Swarm when the NX-01 was making "history with every light-year?"

It's possible that the Franklin was commissioned before the NX-01, but didn't encounter the Swarm until after the formation of the Federation, in which she could have been given a Federation registry and U.S.S. prefix later. So she could have already been several decades old when she was lost.

There's an interesting theory. I buy it.

This holds water. Good thinking! Could you also gauge the Franklin timeline by looking at Spock's jacket?

In the novels, the USS Enterprise NC-01 and USS Endeavour NC-06 where the first Federation registered ships, the other NX class having been lost.

All previous ships, including the dozens of already numbered Daedalus class ships were renumbered and given the USS prefix. The Franklin could have been part of that, pulling her out of mothballs to try and get the design working, leading to her getting lost and crash landing in Swarm space.

Loving how they mention the motocycle in the crosscut, surely they're just trolling the fans by now.
