Spock's Conscience/Should Spock warn _____ about ______?

Re: What should Old Spock tell Starfleet?

But will the crew be the same experienced people if Spock divulges the future and how to solve the crisis?

No, they wouldn't - and he recognises that the situation is different now, so the things he remembers might not happen the same way anyhow.

Re: What should Old Spock tell Starfleet?

It doesn't matter what he tells them. If he tells the truth they will think he is insane.

Uh, if I found someone's 80 year older future self that could be confirmed with dna, then I'd think I was insane!

He should tell them everything. If there are infinite realities, what difference does it make? They'll be a reality where he didn't, a reality where he told them some stuff, might as well be a reality where he divulges everything.

Re: What should Old Spock tell Starfleet?

Old Spock can tell Starfleet about V'Ger and how to deal with it, leading to a retelling of TMP that can be done in half the time of that movie.

Except with Abrams at the helm, there will probably be more splosions.

Re: What should Old Spock tell Starfleet?

I'm in favor of more changes, so perhaps some warnings to Starfleet are unnecessary. For example: don't make the whales an extinct species. That way, they won't have to go back in time. Problem solved. :D

Probably too late for the whales.

Um, hasn't that starship already gone to warp by the 23rd century?

Should old Spock warn the Federation about the Borg?

I hope he does. If I were him I would tell them to start getting ready for them right now so they could be 100% ready for them whenever they arrive.

Re: Should old Spock warn the Federation about the Borg?

Dude. The Borg, V'Ger, and the Whale probe. I hopes he warns the Federation so we won't be subjected to warmed-over retreads of TMP, TVH, Hugh, and a million sub-par Voyager episodes in the new timeline.

Re: Should old Spock warn the Federation about the Borg?

Hell yes he should. At this point, Spock Prime would understand that the timeline has been altered beyond repair by Nero and that this is now where he lives.

As opposed to starting New Vulcan - his first move should have been major debriefing with Starfleet Command.

Re: Should old Spock warn the Federation about the Borg?

I bet he'll just die before he can do anything.

He could even warn them about Voyager getting lost in the Delta Quadrant so the entire Voyager series will never have existed. :p

I'm kidding! I like Voyager. Honestly!

Well, some things will still happen no matter what. As someone else said, V'Ger will still come back to Earth in this timeline.

Also, the Borg are still there still in the Delta quadrant. And sooner or later, with or without Q, they WILL find out about Earth in this new timeline.

I tend to agree. I mean if nothing else, this guy is full of information about 24th century technology.

It's an interesting ethical question, really. Spock Prime should be duty-bound to keep his mouth shut. He can't be certain about this timeline's future. Much has been altered. He can't gaurantee his information is useful or will be used correctly. At the same time, he is truly in a position to play God.

Starfleet: What are you going to do now, Ambassador Spock?
Spock: I think I will seek to repopulate the Earth's oceans with whales.
Starfleet: Of all things, why that?
Spock: You'll see.

Re: Should old Spock warn the Federation about the Borg?

There's no need.
The Federation already knows about the Borg since Archers time.

But in any case, I believe Spock prime should shut up in general. The timeline should be left alone to unfold.
Having Spock spill out everything doesn't mean everyone who died will be saved. It just means that a "new" unpredictable, equally dangerous universe will continue to exist.

You got Khan on the left. Spock says don't turn left.
You turn right and someone worse is there waiting.;)

yeah remember that VOY episode Year in Hell. Total reset button rubbish. But the theme of that episode is pertinent.

"There's going to be some whale people coming around in a few years. We're going to have to fly around the sun real fast and travel into the past to steal some whales."

not true... any mind meld with any other individual... vulcan or human would prove truth.

Didn't you see Nemesis? By your logic, Shinzon could have zoomed over to Earth and told them to prepare for an invasion by giant field mice.

Not if he implanted himself with artificial memories and erased the memory of implanting himself.

Re: What should Old Spock tell Starfleet?

There's no reason for Spock to hold anything back. The timeline is already so altered, he might as well just tell them whatever he thinks they need to know. His approach with Kirk was to tell him what he needed to hear, not the entire truth. That should be his appoach with the rest of the Federation too. Based on what Spock tells them some things will be changed, some problems will be solved, and as a consequence of those changes other problems Spock can't anticipate will crop up and the crew of Enterprise will just have to solve those problems on their own like they always have.

I doubt the whales became extinct between the time of STXI and STIV. Seems they'd been gone a lot longer than that.

In other words, they're already gone, so there's no way to "not make them extinct."

It's too late.

Kirk went to Starfleet with info he got from Sarek, and was pretty much laughed at due to listening to "Vulcan mysticism".

Not eveyone in the Trek universe takes seriously the stuff we know works.
