Season three of LIS really did improve but sadly it wasn't long before Irwin returned to form!

The concept had already been used in the book The Ship Who Sang where a living mind guides a spaceship. It wasn’t a totally new idea and we’ve seen even more of mind/machine interface since then in tv and film.Is it savable? The concept of a biological brain being needed to run HVAC is pretty silly on it's own. The idea that said biological brain could last 10,000 years is icing on the silliness cake. And can you imagine being the consciousness in that disembodied brain for those 10,000 years?

Just because the idea has been around forever doesn't on its own make it a good one.The concept had already been used in the book The Ship Who Sang where a living mind guides a spaceship. It wasn’t a totally new idea and we’ve seen even more of mind/machine interface since then in tv and film.
It was pretty bad though. It was what everyone one remembers from the episode. Its just that non-one can believe a three button controller could be used by McCoy to disarm someone let alone walk. It's usually a bad thing when scripts serve actors, rather than actors serving the script. But in this case, Nimoy's eerie, robotic performance actually added something to the episode, and teed up the music score for some wonderfully dramatic stingers.
That one was very moving, in part for its accompanying music. Don and Smith got along for TEN WHOLE MINUTES!!!!!
