Spock

Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock.

There is no comparison.

But for the sake of discussion my ranking from best to most average would be:

Leonard Nimoy > Ethan Peck > Zachary Quinto > Liam Hughes > Todd Haberkorn > Jeffrey Quinn > Ben Tolpin > Brandon Stacy > Jacob Kogan > Billy Simpson > Joe W. Davis > Stephen Manley > Vadia Potenza > Carl Steven

Sorry if I missed anyone off the list, I'm only human.
Just looked into all of these the only ones I knew was the ones who played Spock in 'In Search For Spock', and than Nimoy, Peck and Quinto, I didn't know there was so many people who played Spock that is actually really interesting to me.

Nimoy was incredible as Spock—he set the bar so high, it's nearly impossible to reach.

Quinto did a great job in the role. I was really hesitant at first, but he won me over with how well he portrayed Spock’s emotional depth. The turbolift scene, where Uhura asks him what he needs, is one of my all-time favorite moments in all of Trek.

And now we have Ethan Peck. I’d say he’s a decent Spock. I appreciate that he’s bringing a more comedic angle to the character—more than we saw in TOS—but it doesn't always work in his favor. That “Four and a half Vulcans” episode was particularly rough.

That said… Ethan Peck is ridiculously easy on the eyes, and honestly, that’s the main reason he’s my favorite.

There, I said it. :D

I admit I'm not a TOS fan really... so I don't feel the emotional involvement with Nimoy that I do with some characters in some of the franchises but I understand how well respected and loved he is.

I say that to say I don't have a lot of skin in the game on this argument.

I think Peck is good, but the writers erode what is good about Spock. Vulcans now need to the caricature we see in Four and a Half Vulcans... or they have Spock flip the other way and be too comedic, dancing, shagging everyone he can... lacking any subtlety that Nimoy brought to the role.

I can tell with just a few scenes of Nimoy that he could tell so much with a glance or an eyebrow, a subtlety that is lacking both in Spock and Trek today. I also don't see the great statesman being formed that we see in the movies and Unification.

I like all the Spockos, they all did a good job with the scripts they were given, even the bad ones. Nimoy's version to be the Spock that most fans venerate, took time.

Nimoy, Peck, and Quinto would be my order.

Nimoy is Spock for me, and I don't know if anyone will ever top him. He did a great job using the tiniest expressions to wordlessly convey a lot, and in my opinion got some of the best stories.

Peck also does a very good job! I think he's able to pull off a lot of the familiar Spock things without feeling like someone doing an impression. The way he's written sometimes feels a little off, but the scene in Sehlat where he promises to demote Kirk at the earliest opportunity was hilarious, and felt just like TOS Spock!

Quinto is a little more complicated to decide on. I think he did a pretty good job, I'm just not impressed with the movies. I wasn't drawn into them the same way, and I was usually seeing actors playing characters rather than the characters themselves.

Nimoy is the one true and best Spock. I really liked his development especially when he appeared in TNG. Spock seem more calmer human and wiser unlike his TOS self where he was full vulcan coded.

His appearance in star trek 2009 was amazing and maybe my favorite of his appearances. You can tell this Spock has truly lived a life and has been influenced and changed by a lot of things. His friendship with Kirk ofcourse to name a few.

Quinto I would say, it is hard to compare him to Nimoy or Peck because he is only in movies so he has a shorter span, however I would say he is a better spock then peck. a lot more 2000s modern written and maybe they took more freedom with the character like his love affair with uhura, but I think it is all balanced well unlike Peck were everything has gone of the rails.

Peck's Spock is the weakest by trek lore and the most removed from the original idea of the character. He is more of a horny teenager in SNW and he acts more human. Also his love escapade with chapel laan tprong all in a short span has destroyed a lot about the character including the mystery something Quinto's Spock still somewhat had even though he too had a love affair going on.

I will note that Nimoy Spock did have his own love affairs in TOS/TV/Movies like Quinto but it was done more tastefully, more vulcan interpreted, unlike Peck Spock that is in a CW TV Show.

Also Peck's spock does not have the loveable superiority attitude to humans that Nimoy or Quinto showed, which was a core of the character and what made spock so intriguing.

I do blame this more on SNW been more of a female driven show were they always show us that the female characters are better and more dominant than the men. Even Captain Pike on the show is not a strong leader. the men of SNW to me are disappointing.

Lastly, I think Peck's spock has suffered from the mistake of the writers favouring a character too much and making them whatever they want, if they think it will bring in ratings, so Peck-Spock has been written the least vulcan of the rest and that put him below quinto and nimoy.

Peck's Spock is basically a romantic leading character because that is what the writers want as they are not sci fi writers.

I swear I think some who say peck is better than quinto are in some kind of denial if we compare both to Nimoy. all the evidence has shown Quinto's Spock stayed closer to the lore than Peck has ever done.

so my ranking
1. Nimoy
2. Quinto
3.Peck

In my opinion I think Ethan Peck is amazing actor and I think he can play Spock amazingly, he plays the type of Spock that is completely aware of his Vulcan side and understands what it is to be a Vulcan, but he doesn't understand his human side and doesn't understand what it's like to have and to feel emotions, I do enjoy seeing Spock more Vulcan than human as with Leonard Nimoy I saw it the completely other way around. I have yet to finish season 2 of SNW so no spoilers here! But I did see the episode where he really had a human problem and he had to hide how human he was, I enjoyed that seeing Ethan portray the human side was so interesting to me as we saw a lot more of angry Spock than sad or confused Spock.

Overall, I really do love them all for different reasons honestly I do. Although I think as of now Leonard Nimoy will stay my favourite but I do look forward to hearing what others think of Spock and what ways you see him and if it's completely different from my point of view.

Iggy Out!

Quinto is a better actor than Peck as he is more natural on screen, Sometimes Peck looks as if he is spitting his lines. Quinto tends to just flow better, also I would say that Quinto had played a cold less killer on NBC Heroes, so I am sure that helped a lot when he played Spock who mostly comes of cold and unfeeling. A lot of Sylar's characterization can be used for Spock especially with the mystery in the character too.

Also I highly doubt peck spock has understood his vulcan side. this is a criticism of the show that peck spock is too human and the excuse is that , they are exploring his human side.

Quinto Spock just from one film has shown more of his vulcan side than peck has ever been, while admitting the struggle of also been half human and Quinto knows how to be subtle and also less subtle.

In trek 2009, Quinto played the perfect Vulcan until he lost his planet and even when he lost his planet he handled it mostly well for a short while.

Peck Spock I hate to say is a clown and a needy teenager especially in season 3 where they lean a lot of comedy and the show focused more on romance than sci fi thaw was mostly generic.

The comedic is killing the character in SNW. Also I remember that scene where uhura kisses Quintos Spock after he lost his planet on trek 2009.

star trek 2009 showed how you can write a cool romance with a vulcan in a 2 hour movie and make it work or make it tolerable, especially for a guy like spock who should not have a romance in the first place.

that scene with the kiss, Quinto Spock showed a good balance of his vulcan and human side and his vulcan side been more dominant again by the end.

Spock gives uhura a hard emotionless stare
uhura breaks him down by kissing him
spock gets himself together and goes vulcan again
one more kiss that shows his human side again
spock leaves the lift goes all vulcan again

All of this was happened in one scene.

I remember well how the scene played out because I was shocked by the romance but also it was the best acting moment from Quinto and Saldana, not to mention the more subtle mature chemistry they had, that made audience root for spock/uhura over kirk/uhura even though the film for the first hour has led us to believe that kirk/uhura would be the couple. In SNW why should I root for chapel over tpring or now even laan? I tire of the soap opera

it also does not help that in SNW the girlfriends were making all the decision and Spock just submitted to their will. Quinto Spock and Uhura were more balanced as a couple.

I know this may sound odd but I hope SNW Spock can be written more from a male perspective angle in the upcoming seasons that would help a lot.

Like this.

Thanks.

Nothing against Quinto or Peck--I like them both--but when I think of Spock, I think of Nimoy. Not because he was the first or had the role the longest, but his was the quintessential version of the character and had a certain gravitas and presence that was there early on, IMO.

I agree Nimoy is the quintessential Spock. You cannot top that realistically.

Quinto spock was diluted a bit for a modern audiences but it sort of works as he is an alternate reality Spock, appears only in movies and has lived through an unimaginable tragedy like losing his mum and his planet and people.:sigh:

Peck's spock is just...yeesh. The writers do not know what they are doing. In season 3 of SNW, Peck's Spock is just someone that looks like a vulcan but acts like none.

Quinto is good too.

I think every Spock adds something to the character.

  1. No,
  2. No; and
  3. No.

As for 2025, Peck Spock is the least critical acclaimed of the actors to play Spock. Here is another recent article that seem very reasonable on how to course correct in season 4 and they talk very negatively of the soap opera elements of the show that is hurting the series.

there is a bullet point called -
Tone Down the Soap Opera

Spock by Nimoy as he played him was traditional in character, he would never jump from one relationship to another. We know this for a fact as seen in TOS. Quinto stayed very close to this charcazation. this is also fact because Quinto os only shown with one girl.

TOS had 79 episodes and 6 movies.

Please show me an era of this series and movies that Spock was seen as a constant horny little man that jumps from one girl to another and does not know how to get a life fast when he gets dumps.

what was the distance between Spock meeting Leia (again) and Zarabeth?

Please do not reply me without showing or giving me the evidence as asked, if not I would have to put you on ignore.I am here to discuss star trek stories and charcaztion and hope to talk to fans who would reply me with honesty and in good faith. I am not here to be baited little sutbance.
