Star Trek Online is treating it as Prime because CBS has told them to, even if it does confuse some of the devs. But they're not changing anything outside of that content to match it, so they will still have TNG and TOS style Klingons outside of the DSC themed content.

For anyone who doesn't think DSC is Prime: You might want to tell Alex Kurtzman that. Send him a letter, send him an email, try to meet with him in person to set the record straight. Whatever you do, I'll be waiting here to see how that turns out...

Hey, the guy in the White House says he had the biggest inaugural crowd ever. He's in charge and he's wrong. Some would say he's lying to further what he considers his self-interest.

...even if it does confuse some of the devs.

Of course it confuses the devs. If someone in authority comes to you on your job and tells you to do something that's senseless, poorly planned and will cause you trouble, you're going to be at least confused.

"Prime" is just a cut of meat.

Some people like it rare.

Some people like it well-done.

Sadly, STD is neither.

Yeah, the whole "Prime" line of argument boils down to: "We have a word. The producers gave us this word, pretty much without elaboration, and one can project into it whatever is meaningful to oneself."

There was no "Prime Universe" before 2009, and Trek was already discontinuous then.

Uhm, there is this minor difference between Star Trek and global warming. The one is a real world phenomenon, the other is a science fiction show.

Yes. Global warming, and history, are about facts. Star Trek timelines and Star Trek continuity are fictional and endlessly malleable. That is exactly how this stuff works.

I really don't get the love for Quinto. He was really mediocre, definitely weakest of the reboot main trio. Whilst I think recasting Spock was a bad idea to begin with, they can easily do better than Quinto.

He put on quite a lot of weight between the first and second films too; where he barely even looked the part at all.

The best casting (and part in general) of those films was McCoy and his casting, despite how underplayed it all was.

"Prime" isn't some absolute, definitive or tangible thing. Kurtzman calling Disco "prime" is akin to walking into Lowe's/Home Depot and asking for 'white' paint.

To quote what I said upthread:

If we're being truly forward-compatible then TPTB are saying it's Prime, but then later on some other creative team on a future series or film will say their Star Trek is Prime. And they'll retcon whatever doesn't fit if they have to. Including Disco if necessary.

So, in the grand scheme of things, this argument is coming to a definite middle.

So does anyone have a clue as to when we might find out who's been cast as Spock?

Yup. They'll hide this as long as possible. If the season doesn't start until January, and it's 13 weeks, that takes us to ending some time in April. Spock will probably be revealed before that and they'll be making the announcement of who plays him shortly before that.

So that's how I figure Winter of 2019.

Oh, I see, you already added in the DSC-typical delays.

I'm not used to thinking of the first few months of a year being 'Winter'. Even though that is technically correct.

Like I know Winter starts in late December, but ever since I was a child I've always thought of November onward as Winter.

This is a reference to how quarters are broken up in a year, especially in business and school. First three months are winder, then spring, then summer, then fall. It's weird, I know.

In Massachusetts:

Winter = January to somewhere in April (in April, there's always one last "Fuck You!" Snow Storm)
Fake Spring = Somewhere in April to the middle of May, also known as "Sprinter"
Real Spring = Middle of May to June
Summer = July to Early-September
Fake Fall = Mid-September
Summer's Last Gasp = Late-September (don't ask me how it happens, it always does)
Real Fall = October to December
