Spock and Uhura's relationship should it continue or end

Speaking of which, would that be a good thing or a bad thing to bring in Chapel to come in and make moves on Spock and create friction with Uhura, or would it be too over the top?

Do you think there shouldn't[sic] be a love relationship between Spock and Uhura or do you think it should end.

I think that there was a grain of TOS flirtation there, and the writers were well within the "Star Trek" milieu to have that blossom into a full romance. Especially when one considers the psychological impact of having a human mother on Spock; he would have seen his father marry a human and so the Vulcan male/Human female relationship would seem comfortable to him.

I like the romance between them, it was very well handled, and very in-character. Let it go on as long as it can! :)

Agree! :techman:

(I did think the transporter room baby talk before beaming to the Narada was a little..."pedestrian" so to speak, but the relationship itself was well done).

I'll pass on any love triangles.
Luckily, they didn't really do it in ST where they really had a chance and I doubt they'll do it in the sequel.

Again, I agree. In fact, I think it was very well done the way that as soon as Kirk saw the interplay between Spock and Uhura, he immediately reigned in his normally flirty ways with her. I think he was signaling to them precisely that he understood, and that was that.

Besides, I'd rather see Kirk either end up with Dr. Markus...or
even with Gaila if they gave her character more depth. How can you not love the Orion girlfriend?!? :bolian:

I actually hadn't been aware that, according to what I'd more recently heard, that Gene had wanted to have a Spock-Uhura relationship, so, if it was something that had its origins in TOS, there you go...as far as Chapel, I think that it's not a fit here; I don't know what, if any, feelings he may have hidden for her on TOS...but Spock has chosen one particular human female, and yes, as a previous mem said a bit ago that he would do as Sarek did....but let me pose one thought..T'Pring. Did she survive Vulcan's destruction? A good chance no....but it's possible...however, I don't see that becoming part of the story at all; there are at this point only two more films, and so much 'B-storyline' to get into...so, it to me looks like Uhura-Spock is it straight through...but, of course, I am not writing the thing....

I vote for the continuation of their relationship. And while I'm not interested in a triangle, I have a feeling that there might be one Uhura/Spock/OFC. It might be played for laughs.

I thought the Spock-Uhura relationship was one of the better aspects of the movie, so I vote that it continue.

Meh.. Can take it or leave it. There was the novelty of the shock value it gave us in the first movie, now that that's over I really don't see much point in continuing it..

Part of Spock's mystique is that he is fairly unobtainable. Also his first loyalty is to the Captain and the ship - having him in bed with Uhura undoes both of these to some degree.

I am in favour of seeing it continue...in moderation. It should be in the same small measured doses that we experienced in ST XI.

If the writers decided to create this relationship, there must be a purpose for it (assuming they aren't being just random and sloppy) so let's see where it goes.

My bet: they're headed for a Spock Has a meltdown plot arc - the events of XI all add up to putting a severe strain on ole Spocko. The added complication of a human girlfriend will only complicate things.
I'll pass on any love triangles.
A-men!

I was trying to figure out why she'd date a non-emotional guy who can hardly look you in the eye
1. He's incredibly hot.

2. The challenge. After all, Nyota must have guys falling all over her. She's bored.

3. Did I mention he's incredibly hot?

Unless of coarse it is a bisexual love triangle, and we can get scenes of Kirk making out with Spock...
The Internets are already full to bursting with that stuff. Putting it on screen would be redundant. :rommie:
I thought it was nice, gives a interesting twist Spock in the original series was cold, unwarming,

Oh, I disagree. Spock was a very passionate person. He just kept it very tightly controlled.

J.

Yep.

Wouldn't mind seeing Chapel try coming onto Spock. And failing of course. If there's a genuine love triangle with Kirk, I might boycott.

Yes Chapel failing would be fine. As long as it was an in passing thing and not a plot line.

The only triangle I want to see is Spock-->Vulcan Identity-->Uhura.

I like the romance between them, it was very well handled, and very in-character. Let it go on as long as it can! :)

I liked it on first watching - Spock has always been my favourite character, it was great to see him get the girl for once.

However, thinking back to when I was first watching the tapes in my early teens, one of the reasons I was drawn to the character of Spock was his social isolation and awkwardness: I felt the same way.

I grew out of it, and was initially in favour of Spock-gets-the-girl, but now I wonder if making him that bit slicker will damage the character.

Speaking of which, would that be a good thing or a bad thing to bring in Chapel to come in and make moves on Spock and create friction with Uhura, or would it be too over the top?

No, a thousand times no! If I wanted soap opera I'd go watch [insert soap opera name of your choice]. Keep it out of Star Trek! :klingon:
