Spock and Uhura [SPOILERS]

Maybe T'Pring did make it.

And therein, young Padwan, lies to core plot point of the Sequel, XII.

OF COURSE T' PRING MADE IT. SHE WAS ALWAYS A CLEVER GIRL. POOR STONN WASN'T. THAT'S WHY HE GOT SUCKED INTO THE SINGULARITY, BUT SHE MADE IT INTO AN EVACUATION SHUTTLE. SHE ALWAYS KNEW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF HERSELF!!!!

Now the population of eligible Vulcan males is somewhat, how shall we say, limited? And T' Pring needs someone with whom to undergo Ponn Farr? And she finds out in a somewhat roundabout way that the man with whom she was betrothed is shagging an Earther woman?

You can see the setup for a complete ripoff of Amok Time, can't you? Only with a girlfight to the death at the end.

The only question for Paramount is which A-List actress gets casted as the Woman Scorned? Any takers as to who plays T'Pring?

I am calling bullshit on any other plot points. I know Paramount too well. They want female mudwrestling. The setup involving Spock and Uhura opens the door for T'Pring too conveniently.

Uhura vs. T'Pring: Vulcan Cage Death Match. I'm calling it now. This script writes itself.

I loved the romance. I can't exactly explain why, but I think its my favorite part of the movie. Maybe because it is so natural and...human. In a movie that could have easily become a new Star Wars Episode I visual spectacle, elements like these made it connect on a personal level.

I was expecting a Spock/Uhura, but I thought that it would just be her having a crush on him. I loved that it was a full-fledged adult relationship. Star Trek needs more of those.

In terms of continuity, I noticed a scene that I had forgotten about in "the Man Trap" where Uhura flirts with Spock who seems oblivious or uninterested. I wonder if the writers were playing off of that.

anyone remember this from charlie x
;)

Oh, on the starship Enterprise There's someone who's in Satan's guise Whose devil ears and devil eyes Could rip your heart from you. At first, his look could hypnotise And then his touch would barbarise His alien love could victimise And rip your heart from you. And that's why female astronauts, Oh, very female astronauts Wait terrified and overwrought To find what he will do. Oh, girls in space, be wary, be wary, be wary, Girls in space, be wary. We know not what he'll do.
i wonder if the writers were inspired by it..
;)

Don't forget Leila Kalomi (This Side of Paradise), who Spock had a relationship with six years prior to the episode. Spock was definitely a player.

Thank you both for posting this....it's helping me.... albeit slightly but it's helping. This is one aspect of the movie I could of done without..I find it unnecessary..... I see I'm the minority...I know there are others who agree so where you at???

Spock and Uhura should be doing bumpedybump. :D

Atleast spock is monogamous; I don't think Kirk's lifestyle choice would ever agree with Nyoto considering the dressing-scene. :D

Right here!!!

I don't want Spock to become completely human, dammit. I like his "self-made purgatory" of being essentially emotionally very very vulnerable and very very unable to express his emotions.

I appear to be in the minority, but I hated it. I mentioned in the grading thread that I dislike this because it's a very tempered emotional response, a "normal human" romantic scene. Vulcan emotional responses are normally either completely repressed or aggressive, powerful, and raw. I find it hard to believe that Spock suddenly can reach that kind of normal "budding romance" middle-ground in the face of what we know was traumatic for him. It was too, too weird.

Now, I want to make it clear--I like the idea of Spock learning to deal with his emotional human side and don't mind the relationship thing with Uhura. It was too comfortable too fast, though.

Too fast? For us, the viewer, perhaps. But it might as well have been going on for 4 years at the Academy. Perhaps he knew her from before that. She doesn't get to be his special protegé for nothing; she probably consistently proven herself to him. Or he wouldn't have her transferred to the Enterprise.

I highly doubt he's been kanoodling in public with her at the academy for the past 4 years. The most I'll go for is that he must have had an underlying attraction to her for some time. The point of that scene, many people seem to be indicating, is that after his father admits that he loved Amanda and suggests to Spock that he embrace his emotions, he decides to let loose his inner human with Uhura. I still say that was a awfully fast emotional adjustment.

And this coming from someone who loved the Trip/T'Pol relationship.

OK, but he was engaged to T'Pring and STILL cheating on her. Her dying (if she died, and knowing that bitch, she got off-planet somehow,) doesn't make it right. :p

Of course, being an alternate timeline, perhaps she WAS married to Stonn.
Maybe he was married to Stonn. Who knows. :p

Anyway, is rebelling against an arranged marriage really cheating? It's like saying a runaway slave is in breach of contract.

I thought it worked pretty well; I wasn't sure about the transporter room makeout, but it hilarious, so there you go.

It could be argued that it was present in the original series -- the flirting between them during Charlie X (watch it again, Spock is smiling at her), her flirting with him during Man Trap, etc.

I had no problems with it at all.

It was a good curveball, because the trailers only showed what turned out to be Kirk's epic fail at getting Uhura. So Spock-Uhura was a pleasant surprise in this quantum reality.

It has been argued.

You should track down a copy of Spock and Uhura by Ruth Barker (printed in The Best of Trek [17]: From the Magazine for Star Trek Fans (1994))

Enjoyed the hell out of it.

You know, the funny thing about watching Quinto's Spock, for me, was simultaneously completely buying him as Spock and yet being aware with every shot that this is a new guy. Weird.
I grappled with that particular bit of cognitive dissonance for about the first five minutes of each classic character's introduction, but my hat's off to J.J. and the cast (and casting directors April Webster and Alyssa Weisberg)... each and every one of them made their characters their own. In fact, I find myself this afternoon having a little trouble visualizing the original actors in those roles. The new crew did that good of a job.

Loved this couple. Their scenes together were some of the most touching of the film. It added greatly to the characters. Seeing Spock completely pussy-whipped at the beginning was awesome. It made sense why he would want to keep with that crew as he wanted to be with his girl. I hope they keep them together in any future movies.

Ok so maybe it's the day after and you're all "aglow"...but let's not get completely crazy here.... I mean trouble picturing the originals in these roles???? LOL LOL

If you still feel that way well then I'd like to have whateva your havin so I can be out of my mind too!
