Yes! Discuss, indeed. I'm waiting to hear. For my part, it was delicious.

Kind of hard to figure out why that was done, but it blended into the movie okay.

It'll be interesting to see where they take the relationship and Spock's character in general if there is a next movie.

    Re: Spock and Uhura

    Thanks...

I lurved that scene in the transporter room as Kirk and Spock were getting ready to beam over to the Narada. And I am so glad I managed to keep myself spoiler-free for the movie--this was a shock, but a pleasant one. If Spock was going to have a relationship with someone on the Enterprise, Uhura is the obvious--and dare I say it--logical choice.

Interesting indeed. I flowed well with the storyline. Maybe this Spock is more in touch with his human side. His defiance at the Vulcan council near the beginning of the film is consistent with a Spock who will allow himself to fall in love. My .02

I thought Sarek's admission to Spock that he married Amanda for love was a foreshadowing that Spock could also love.

    Too unconsensual? Molested Spock? :vulcan:

The timing of the reveal was what I found jarring. They gave no inkling of a relationship until just after Vulcan was destroyed, and then Uhura just throws herself at Spock. Did that give anyone else a "going to a funeral to hit on the widow(er)" vibe?

I thought it was interesting that this relationship was likely true in the old trek timeline as well. I mean unless the Kelvin effected Uhura and Spock in some unforeseen way. I'm thinking it would have taken place in both. ARG! time travel!

Well we did get the favoritism bit with the Enterprise assignment. Although we didn't know it went that deep.

Personally I thought it was great. Who better to help Spock with his "emotions." I don't blame the sly Vulcan either, grrrwow.

BTW, I think the fact that it worked so well shows the chemistry all these actors had with each other. I also didn't think Quintos had that kind of depth. He's a superb actor.

You know, it's interesting to see Kirk AND Spock pining after Uhura. What a change for these Trek characters.

I thought this was among the best aspects of the movie.

The notion of Spock getting the girl instead of Kirk is delicious in its own right, and it was played absolutely perfectly. I might actually call the scene in the turbolift between the two as the best in the film, and definitely the most moving.

I never would have written something like that into the movie, but it worked.

It seems to work, and expands Uhura's role from token minority bridge crew member (female, black) to something more substantial.

The shocking lack of lead females in this movie only further put pressure on expanding Uhura's role.

Well, as far as fandom goes, it was a very, very savvy move. Spock is by far the most popular heart throb. And I found Quinto's very warm and charming indeed.

Agreed, Jeri... Zack Quinto definitely made the character his own, now. They ALL did. What a fantastic movie!!!!

I think in the original timeline Spock would have flirted with the idea of having a relationship outside of Vulcan tradition and enjoyed opening up with Uhura.. but at some point that would have all ended and it would have been no more than an emotional dalliance, before he tried to embrace life as a Vulcan. But.. Vulcan is gone now, as is his mother. Does this free him to pursue his own desires or does he go hardcore Vulcan in response to being an endangered species?

I found it very believable, it went hand in hand with his anger and lack of full control. All in all a younger Spock. I can't wait to see what happens with this.. I hope it's a full blown relationship and not just a fling.

anyone remember this from charlie x
    ;)

i wonder if the writers were inspired by it..
    ;)

    anywhoo...

i dont think we were blindsided.. there was a hint of something about the crew assignments stuff.

plus as i said else where i think what happened on the transporter pad was because things were just so crazy with spock at that moment.
he had lost his planet, his mother and was possibly feeling the after effect of the revalation by sarek that the logic reason he married amanda is he did love her.
