SPOCK and "REAL" women

My $0.02:

Isaac Asimov suggested it was because Spock resisted feminine charms so well. Nimoy satirized this in his books with the following exchange:

SHE: Mr. Spock, can I offer you something to drink? Scotch, burbon, whiskey...a martini?

SPOCK: Madam, my mind is in precicely the condition I require it to be. I see no reason to alter it with stimulants or depressents.

SHE: Would you excuse me while I slip into something more comfortable?

SPOCK: Since the dress you are wearing is clearly not functional, and you now inform me that it is not comfortable...I fail to understand your reasons for wearing it.

If I were to continue this charade:

SHE: (gigles to herself as she walks off to change) Oh...he's so hot!

SPOCK: (frowning) "Hot"...? Do I posses a fever I am not aware of?

SHE: (gigles again, turns to him) Oh, Spock...you have no idea....

I really think it's visual...

or so my first wife said...

she often mentioned that Nimoy looked just so..gentlemanly that he was irresistible

A tall, dark stranger with a superior intelligence. What's not to like?

How about 'Tall, pale with average intelligence and no real mystery'?

Will that do anything to get the ladies??

<giggity-giggity>

Women are attracted to the unattainable, especially when it means they'll never have to go through with it.

They are, literally, insane.

Joe, married

He is essentially the perfect man.
He is strong and intelligent, clearly supierior to any other males on the enterprise. He is also dominating and controlled in his presence but not at all imposing or threatening in his demenour.

It is a primal instinct that deep down women can not ignore telling them to go for the superior specimen and from his mind to his biology Spock is, simply, superior. :vulcan: ;)

Yeah, but how would he stack up against Kahn???

KAHN is the cat's meow, the bee's knees and twenty-three skidoo all rolled into one; just ask any female 20th century historian.

Khan scared me; I don't get why McGivers ("...uh, McGivvers?") wasn't scared, too. She died for it, as it turns out.

Khan had not an iota of softness in him and was arrogant with a firm belief that he was "the one." He looked down on everyone except those he considered equals. He was cruel too.

Nothing to attract in a man like that. At least, not for me. For Marla, it was hero-worship. She really liked an mega-alpha like that and was willing to put up with humiliation to get him. Yuck.

"Yuck" is the word.

Anyway, I simply LOATHE episodes in which a trained Starfleet officer forgets all her ethics and training and values when she goes gaga over some guy. It's one of many reasons why I dislike Plato's Stepchildren (though I haven't mentioned this yet in that thread) as well as this episode. A little alpha-male posturing and all of a sudden it's like, "I'm a trained officer? Really? Oh, well, I don't need any of that stuff now that I've found Mr. Right."

Yuck and bleh.

Yeah the thing about Spock was that he could present as an alpha male while not demanding the whole hero worship thing or be overly dominating. The main thing I could imagine any woman feeling in a relationship with Spock would be secure.

You know aside from the thinking that OMG my honey is soooooo hot!

yeah I grokked Spock before I knew what it was about him in my little 10 year old heart! Maybe the safety of an unrequitable crush and him seeming to know everything. Yet he still seemed kind to my little eyes. Time has not replaced him with Jim Kirk - far from it. Time makes him all the more attractive on many levels. Khan? EEeeeww!
