Spider-Man: Homecoming' anticipation thread

There's no reason to be alarmed. The context of Amy Pascal's comments was simply "look how cool this thing is, studios almost never work together. Who knows if it'll happen again." That headline is technically true - Spider-Man could leave the MCU after the sequel to Homecoming (Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man so they can do what they want with him), but it's misleading because it implies there's any intention to end the deal at this time.

^Yeah. Pascal just wasn't talking about anything beyond the sequel because there's no contract for that yet, and people in business can't jump the gun on things like that. And maybe it's a negotiating tactic, hinting that they might pull out as a way to get leverage in talks for a contract renewal.

You guys are probably right. I just hadn't really considered before that Spider-Man could be pulled out of the MCU.

It could be that it just means that future Spider-Man movies will be self contain stories not tied to the bigger MCU story lines..kind of like the Netflix Defenders shows deal with their own little part of the MCU with no real contact with the movies.

Sony should just make an animated verse of movies (I know they are doing one film) I personally have little interest with their Venom movie or any live action spinoff they have planned. I cannot be bothered to follow a separate universe on top of the MCU of Spidy who I want in the MCU post Avengers 3 & 4.

I already follow MCU, DCEU and X-Men/Deadpool... I am tapped out at this point.

There's also the fact that Sony is looking to offload their film department and talking up how valuable their IPs are and how this deal is only temporary can only be good for their valuation.

Okay, Marvel has now clarified that Tony's only in the movie for like 15 minutes or so if you add up all his screentime. Obviously, most of what we saw in the trailers.

So everyone complaining this is "Iron Man 4" can kindly take a hike.

Oh, I'm sure that won't stop people from complaining. ;)

I'm not complaining. In fact, I'm relieved. It's nice to see that Kevin Fiege is allowing Tom Holland to be at the forefront of his own solo film, instead of allowing Robert Downey Jr. to hijack half of it, like he did Chris Evans' third solo film.

It's not Iron Man 4. Just not convinced its a good fit.

They can't just ignore the rest of the Universe exists anymore in these movies, trying to pretend Peter exists in his own little bubble with no one else is just poor writing.

Even the Netflix shows manage to get references to the greater MCU.

Not what I'm implying at all.

Well, the Webb/Garfield reboot got a lot of complaints that it wasn't distinct enough from the Raimi/Maguire films to justify being a reboot. Since this subsequent reboot is in the MCU, what better way to make it distinct from the previous film Spideys than to set it firmly in the MCU and build its story out of the accumulated history and continuity of the MCU?

Daredevil did so as well without utilizing any of the mains.
What are you suggesting? Spidey can't really be standalone anymore.
Since I'm not suggesting that Spidey be stand alone, there is no reason to make that conclusion.

My main concern is that RDJ will dominate the story line, and overshadow the main.
