Spider-Man: Homecoming' anticipation thread

I tend to agree with the viewpoint that a younger Spidey is the best way to go all-round.
As has been noted, most of the current heroes are middle aged men and it'd be nice for the younger fans to see someone in their own age range in the mix (it'd also be nice to have a non-white female in there too, but that's a different discussion.)

Plus of course looking at this from the POV of sustainability, whoever they cast the actor will grow up fast, so we'll be able to see Spidey grow up along the way and when he wants out of his contract *then* you can pass the role over to Morales without some clumsy recasting or yet another reboot.

That's not to say Miles won't get a shot, but it'll need to be several movies down the line, maybe if Peter retires.

Or there can be two concurrent and teaming up.
Why not?

Spider Men, Spider Men, Does whatever a spider ken...

See, doesn't work...

:)

Well, it does with my accent. "Ken" is pretty close to how I say "can" (as in being able to do something. If I was to talk about the metal object, that would rhyme with "man."). I realize this is a sidepoint, though.

It would require a complete shift in Miles motivations in doing what he does. With Peter, it's all about power, responsibility and Uncle Ben. With Miles, it's about living up to the name and legacy of the deceased Peter Parker and being worthy to carry forward with the "Spider-Man" name.

Not at all. For a moment (or more), the world thinks Peter's dead (Infinity War, even?) Miles steps up, Peter comes back and finds there's plenty of room for two of them.

Peter came back in the Ultimate books, so it's not even a stretch from the source material (sure, Peter left, but he could just as well have stayed if that's where they wanted to go with the story).

Ah, but you didn't let me finish. Then, in Spider-Man 9, it's revealed that the Parker who died was actually the Parker introduced in the alternate timeline in Dr. Strange 3 and that the real Parker has been working undercover as a double agent within Hydra. He costars in Spider-Man 9 with Miles and then takes over the franchise again in Spider-Man 10 while Miles leads his own spinoff.
You forgot about the movie where Doc Ock switches minds with Peter while dying...

Marvel's Spider-Man won't be an origin story, says Kevin Feige

Phew

Chris Evans- 33
Chris Hemsworth- 31
RDJ- 50
Mark Ruffalo- 47
Jeremy Renner- 44
Scarlet Johansson- 30
Chris Pratt- 35
Charlie Cox- 32
Mike Colter- 38
I also forgot,
Paul Rudd- 46
Krysten Ritter- 33

and if you will
Hayley Atwell- 33
Clark Gregg- 53

So again, I don't see the problem with having a teen/young actor over say a mid/late 20 something.
Hell, Andrew Garfield is now 31!

Just for completeness sake, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is 25 and Elizabeth Olsen is 26.

I wasn't keen on the idea of a teen Spider-Man at first but the more I think of it the more I like it. It would be really neat to see how the older, more seasoned Avengers react to this young cocky kid.

If they hire a young actor they'll be able to move on to all the other stages of his life as well so really it's kind of a win for everybody in the long run.

I'm slowly coming around to a school age Parker.

I'm still invested in Garfield in the part, but at least it'll be still be Peter.

I really want a scene of young Peter geeking out when meeting Tony Stark and trying to show off the webshooters.

Marvel apparently had a contingency plan in case Spider-Man opened up all along. As a result, Kevin Feige already had fully realized visions for "Phase 3", with or without Spider-Man, as revealed here.

You made the Phase Three announcement in October, planning through 2019. Then a few months later, Marvel’s biggest character becomes available. How drastically did the Phase Three plans change when Spider-Man was back in the mix?
As you might have imagined, that had been in the works for a long, long, long, long time. And we had, as we often do, mapped out various alternatives if things don’t happen. So we had a plan how it would continue without him and we have a plan how now it will continue with him. I wouldn’t say it was “drastic” but we were certainly happy when it all came together.

Sony Pictures and Marvel have narrowed down their list of “Spider-Man” contenders to a select group of up-and-coming actors that includes Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James, among others

Doesn't sound like the five finalists to me.

To be clear, none of the five actors above have test offers, but multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation have confirmed they are strong contenders who are definitely in the mix as of right now

Yeah, that's not very confident right there.

It’s also possible that one of the aforementioned quintet may not end up testing for the coveted role, but as of right now, those are the five actors TheWrap has heard consistently from trusted sources.

And maybe these aren't even the five, but they may be some of the five. And they're certainly five people.

OK, maybe I'm being a bit mean, but I can't say this is news just yet. It's just a group of five people with buzz surrounding them because there's other talk that the list has been narrowed to five.

^ Yep they're still doing it. They wanted to use it as a soft reboot after TASM 2. The Sony/Marvel deal allows Spidey to be integrated into the MCU and Marvel helping Sony craft their Spider-Man Universe but Sony still has their plans for Spidey's solo films.
