Spider-Man: Far From Home anticipation thread

I can't wait to see him wear the helmet for probably 30 seconds when we first see the suit, then never wear it again until the inevitable CG filled final battle, removing the helmet for a final time as he's captured and/or dies.

This is Mysterio, it wouldn't make sense for him NOT to use all kinds of CGI and FX in his fighting!

Oh, I'm fine with CG battles,, I was just commenting on how most characters in these movies only seem to wear their disguises/uniforms while they're cg models, with the actual live action characters taking literally any excuse the remove the mask/helmet/etc.

Part of that comes from the nature of the movies themselves, where there seems to be an expectation that we see the actors faces.

Mysterio

That is the fugliest costume I've ever seen in a comic-book film, and whoever designed it should've been fired.

What little interest I had left in this movie is gone completely based on that costume design alone.

It's mainly so they can...you know....ACT.

There have been plenty of times in various MCU films where they could have left the helmet/mask/etc on and the scene would have been fine. Captain America doesn't even get that excuse, because all of his helmets showed his eyes and mouth. Its just annoying to see a hero remove their mask/etc every time. I'm pretty sure its less for "acting" purposes, and more for "We paid this actor, we want to show them off" purposes.

It reminds me of the film Dredd, and how awesome it was that Karl Urban never removed his helmet at any point in the film (although that obviously came from the fact that Dredd is never supposed to remove his helmet, but it was still cool to see an actor not need to get their face on screen for no reason).

As opposed to the Stallone version where he hardly had his helmet on. The entire script for that movie was written so that Stallone could be out of uniform for most of the film.

For the second time (and I'm counting), I agree with you--but I can't remember what the first was so please don't ask.

Right, it's not like the comics have Steve take off his helmet plenty of times...oh wait.

Yeah, I appreciated that. But I'm not sure I'd have appreciated it as much if we didn't have the Stallone version first so we'd know how much worse it could be.

So excited to see Mysterio!

:) one of the coolest, dorky costumes in the MU - and I love it!

Ps: I still have my Toybiz Mysterio Marvel Legend figure - and it’s awesome!

Steve Rogers really does not take off his cowl (he doesn't wear a helmet in the comics) during action scenes. Sometimes it gets blasted away, but he almost never just takes off his damn cowl, and he doesn't even have a secret identity. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but it doesn't happen in the comics for any character nearly as much as it does in films, where its done in basically every single movie. For other superhero examples, I have basically never seen Spider-Man remove his mask willingly during a fight, and its the same for basically every hero, even the ones without secret identities.

Basically, in the comics, people tend to stay in their superhero/villain gear while fighting, until/unless it gets blasted off of them. In the movies its basically guaranteed that everyone will be mask/helmet/cowl-less by the end of the climax, which gets annoying sometimes.

Its not like this trend ruins movies for me, its just a bit annoying.

Re: the ending of Homecoming, why did the Vulture decide to not try to have Spider-Man killed by telling the Scorpion who he was?

Was he really impressed by that Spider-Man had saved his life despite him having previously left him to die? Was he not really interested in revenge against Spider-Man when, himself being in prison, he wouldn't financially benefit from it? Some other reason?

I think that was deliberately left vague in order to provide future writers more options. I interpreted it as a bit of a combination of the two. He probably does feel a bit indebted to Peter for saving his life. But there's also probably an element of him wanting to make any defeat of Spiderman his personal responsibility.

I disagree. I think Vulture was a very practical, family oriented guy. His practicality was enough to sign Peter's death warrant while him winning would still actually protect his secret and therefore his family. But once the damage was done and his family felt the effects of his actions, I don't think he could bring himself to compound their pain even from a place of anonymity by hurting more people, especially the guy his daughter liked.

It was a combo of Peter saving his life and remembering that Peter saved his daughter's life in Washington. He did leave him to die at the warehouse but that was because he felt he was backed into a corner and didn't have a choice (and he did give Peter a chance to leave twice by then). He does have some values after all.

Or maybe he just wants to get back at Peter himself someday.

CBR is apparently reporting that the Elementals are involved in this movie? Has anybody heard anything about this?

There are fire and water powers on display in the trailer right? I've definitely heard that name come up in the trailer speculation. But i can definitely think of other explanations, so whether CBR actually has anything at all official or just more speculation, I don't know.

I'm pretty sure the Elementals have been name checked in some form, although forget where and by whom. It's probably already been discussed in this thread.

There's a big dirt monster, a big water monster and a big fire monster. They say it's the Elementals, but it could be powered up versions of Sandman, Molten Man and Hydro-Man.

Of course, the general theory is that they're just illusions created by Mysterio.

I'm thinking they are real because in one of the trailers Spidey gets a water blast from Hydroman and Spidey is actually soaked. If it's an illusion I don't think he'd be saturated.
