Spider-Man: Far From Home anticipation thread

Mysterio won't have the fishbowl, because the comics did it. Sony and the MCU barely allow Spider-Man to wear his costume, in fact he spent a lot of his last solo movie without anything resembling his actual costume, and he had his mask off for most of Infinity War outside of his few action scenes, so they're definitely not going to allow the fishbowl. Between Sony hating the comics in general and the MCU loathing costumes that look anything like the comics in the post Phase 1 movies (even if a few people like Ant-Man have them, the MCU tries to stay far away from accurate costumes, although at least they do have heroes that wear costumes, unlike FOX movies), Mysterio getting his actual costume will be a miracle.

heck, even if he gets the fishbowl he'll probably wear it for all of 2 minutes, because most actors just have to show their face for every second they can in a movie about masked heroes and villains (with Karl Urban being the only actor to really discard that bullshit attitude, when he played Judge Dredd).

Good thing we have you then, to tell us The Truth about those movies and the evil producers agenda. Up till now I actually liked all the movies. Thanks to you the veil has finally lifted.
Thank you.
I will burn my Blu-ray’s of those abominations of movies right away.

Spider-Man and Mysterio working together is definitely unexpected. So I wonder if there will be no Mysterio fishbowl at all, or if he just wasn't wearing it for this scene?

Fishbowl confirmed.

Also, Mysterio's first appearance didn't have him working with Spider-Man, but it did have him pretending to be a hero. He would frame Spider-Man for crimes, and then got J Jonah Jameson to pay him bring Spider-Man in. Given that, my theory in the movie is that he will be creating all of the threats that he is supposedly saving people from.

Hooray, fishbowl confirmed! Best news today!

I'm avoiding the trailer description because I rather wait until it's properly released.

Huh, the IGN description specifically says he does not wear the helmet. I wonder if maybe they missed the part where he does?

I was wondering if there was precedent in the comics for Mysterio being a hero, or at least pretending to be one. Nice to know there is.

if I recall correctly, didn't you recently mention that you were reading the early Stan Lee and Steve Ditko Spider-Man stories? The first Mysterio is in issue 13.

I was, but I'm taking a break right now. I just double checked and the first Masterworks, which is what I'm reading, ends at #10. I've got a ton of other stuff to get through, so it'll probably be a while before I continue on past that point.

"Nick Fury hijacked my summer vacation!"

They should've gone with that as the title instead.

Interesting how May seems to be very accepting of Peter as Spider-Man. I really hope we see an immediate follow up to her accidentally discovering his secret identity at the end of the last film.

We only see it very briefly but Mysterio's fish bowl is there! I guess he only activates it when he's in battle, which makes sense.

Compared to how she was usually portrayed as borderline senile in the comics until the late 90s, it's a welcome change.

Well, the MCU Spider-Man is officially worse then the Garfield one. I guess the offscreen MCU Uncle Ben never gave him the speech about power and responsibility, since no other version of Spider-Man would have left their fucking costume at home with the intention of just not helping people for (presumably) weeks. The actual Spider-Man would take his fucking costume to his honeymoon, a funeral, hell he'd be wearing it under his clothes if he was in a hospital waiting room waiting for his wife to give birth, just in case. Outside of the one storyline where he tries to give up his responsibility but realizes he can't (which was used well in Spider-Man 2), Spidey doesn't go "Eh, fuck the suit, no one in Europe could possibly need my help".

At best its extreme stupidity/naivete, at worst its Peter being a giant piece of shit. This is why "realistic" teen heroes are even worse then DC's attempts at "realistic" heroes, because most teenagers are selfish assholes and that's not a particularly compelling type of character for a superhero movie. This isn't even in character for this version of Spider-Man. He was so into helping people, he jumped onto a spaceship and went into space. That is not someone who is going to leave their costume at home under any circumstances, even if they don't intend to do active superhero things.

Anyway, Nick Fury was the only good part of that trailer. Mysterio looks like an asshole, and you just know he's going to have to show his face at literally every point where he's not in a CG fight. But, I guess you can't hide the face of the star of such great films as Banging Heath Ledger and The White Prince of Persia, that would just be a tragedy. We also get some scenes showing why I absolutely loathe almost all of Marvels attempts (both in live action and in other media) at doing teen heroes. Even when Peter himself isn't shit, he is surrounded with literally nothing but cliched teen shitheads. That scene near the end with all his classmates made me feel like I was watching the fucking Shazam trailer, and reminding me of the worst superhero film ever conceived is not a good thing.

I agree it is a welcome change. I'm just thinking about how she was portrayed in Homecoming, especially her reaction to finding out.

Except for all those times he'd quit with the intention of never doing anything ever again. This Peter exists in a world full of superbeings, not unbelievable he'd think it's okay after everything that's happened to have some time to himself. There are times in the comics he's fine going on trips and not wanting to do super-stuff until the plot contrives a reason for him to.

So kiss 3 Dimensional characterization goodbye, then.

Again, it happens in the comics.

If the suspicions are true and he's doing this to make himself look like a hero, why WOULDN'T he show off his face to his grateful public?

I think it's that you dislike teens in general.
