After watching all 3 episodes several things stood out. When in the artifact you seen the sign indicates there had not been an assimilation in roughly 16 years aboard the artifact. Then you see Soji assisting in removal of Borg prosthetics and as two Romulans are packaging the arm they state the nameless Borg had been in stasis for 14 years. Soji says " his species has a name, we just don't know it." Then she speaks to the nameless in what is his species' language, confirmed by Hugh in episode 3. Also in episode 3 they mention the possibilty of a group consciousness to help former Borg become individuals again and the mention that the Romulan was unique, because she was the last person the artifact assimilated, Hugh asks Soji how she knew that and gave a non committal reply that she just knew it.
The synthetic attack on Mars was 14 years previous on First Contact Day. In First Contact the Enterprise went to the past and stopped the assimilation and secured First Contact. As self destruct was activated, Data calls to Picard presumably through his lingering connection to the Borg, Picard goes to Data and encounters the Borg Queen. When the Borg Queen talks to Picard she says "we were very close, you and I. You can still hear our song." Picard recalls she was on the ship, but that ship and all Borg on it were destroyed. The Queen replies " you think in such three dimensional terms, how small you've become." Data was semi assimilated and as First Contact indicated, the effects of assimilation are never truly gone. Perhaps Data's attempt to transfer his positronic engrams to B4 was more successful than the Daystrom Institute was led to believe and harvested by Mattox allowing the creation of Dahj and Soji.
If the artifact was dormant for 16 years, how was a drone in statis for only 14 years, not 16? 14 years seems to coincide with the unexplained synth attack on Mars on First Contact Day. What if the date is significant, the Borg attempt to assimilate Earth in the past and synth attack? If the effects of assimilation linger, and the Borg Queen was intimately close to both Data and Picard the sense could be passed on, if only fragmented, would explain how Soji knew the nameless Borg's species and language even though in conversation she said they did not know the name of his species. What if the Borg Queen is trying to come back? Or to tie Discovery in, what if there is some hybrid of Control and the Borg Queen? The Queen would know everything about Data and Picard and we saw in Discovery how Control could imitate key personnel, even the assimilation of Leland.
If Picard felt Starfleet was no longer like Starfleet and Discovery went to a future where the Federation was nearly non existent, perhaps Discovery will reappear in the Picard timeline to help thwart the new enemy and save the Federation.
It's new and exciting Trek and only a theory, even if it seems fragmented like a conspiracy theory.
