NCC-01 USS Dauntless

Since the only USS Dauntless we ever saw was fake, that might not be a real number. (i.e. the "NX-01-A" in VOY)

The Constellation and Oberth didn't before this?

The earliest confirmed sighting of an Oberth-class ship is ST III (the USS Grissom) which was in 2285.

As for the Constellation: We never saw one until TNG, when it was already decades old. The earliest in-universe appearance of one was in ST VI (2293) when the Constellation was still NX-1974 and undergoing certification trials at a starbase.

I was referring to the Constitution USS Constellation. NCC-1017

^ Okey dokey.

As far as registry numbers go, I doubt they ever really had a pattern to begin with. There's no reason to automatically assume they must have had one.

On a side road - the Hathaway, a Constellation-class starcruiser, was said to be 80 years old in 2365, placing her launch in or around 2285.

I wonder if they could swing getting Bruce Greenwood to play the part.. Im not a big fan of the JJverse.. but I think that would be cool! :)

There was another one seen in the "Battle of Procyon V" with the Enterprise-J in the ENT ep "Azati Prime". That means Starfleet found the design to be efficacious enough to adapt as a main line combat vessel in the future. No idea what the registry was.

what are people's thoughts on last night's USS gagarin?

i love the design of the shepard-class, sort of a half step between the walker-class shenzhou and crossfield-class discovery.

Most likely explanation: Something went wrong with the Constellation at one time, necessitating its recertification years after it was built.

Rather unlikely fanwanky explanation: The "80 year old" reference was in Zakdorn years, not human years. (The only character who ever mentions the Hathaway's age is a Zakdorn...)

I wouldn't.

I mean, Greenwood knocked it out of the park when playing Pike, but IMHO they should use a new cast. Who knows, Bad Robot might not even allow any of the Kelvinverse actors to appear on DSC anyway.

Starfleet seems to be losing a lot of ship. Though I wonder of the Klingons are losing more for each Federation starship they take down?

But that many loses does give way to a ship like USS Enterprise being the only ship in the quadrant a bit more believability...with such heavy loses it would take some time to rebuild. Starfleet might not have been able to recover for decades, which might also be a reason way you would refit the Contitution-class instead of building a whole new ship....you need every hull you got, but you need to keep up with the Klingons.

Looks cool.

Had a crew of 460, I think they said. Discovery only has 130 or thereabouts.
