SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space station

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

A week delay is nothing. Hell, two weeks delay is nothing, based on how long it's already been delayed. I would rather they make 100% sure that everything is good instead of 95% sure.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could ever be 100% sure about these things?

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

I sure hope it's managed better than Tesla was in it's first production run.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

They are going to make a fire test in 3 hours and a half, a webcast will start in 3 hours. So we're going to get a piece of the action a week early.

A hell of a long webcast for a 2 seconds firing test, though.

No bucks, no Buck Rodgers....

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Very curious about this one. Hoping the delay just adds anticipation. I'm watching it on the web.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Delayed at least 3 days, though more than likely may 19th now.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

First they delay it 7 days, then delay it 3.5 days, then they'll delay it with 1.75 days, then with 0.875 days... We all know that this is never going to end...

Does it have something to do with the initial failure that had to be fixed during the static firing test?

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

No, that was just an incorrect parameter on a warning indicator. It was set too conservatively.

This delay is most likely either due to something found in software needed later on in the mission, or a problem found during the physical inspection. Like I said, hope it is only a 3 day delay, but more likely closer to 10.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

New launch date is confirmed for May 19 around 4:55am EDT. Night Launch!

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Launch T zero now confirmed as 4:55 am Cape Canaveral time on Sat, May 19. I will be tweeting live from mission control.

It would some that while some parts of the world are moving forward, others are moving backwards, often at the same time. Progress and regress of humanity, all in the same room!

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Who is the quote from? Elon?

I think it's awesome that they will be livestreaming in HD (even if the camera's aren't) for this launch.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Yup

There is no mention of video feeds anywhere I looked, though I hope there would be (there were for the firing tests, and I bet NASA TV will be streaming the launch). Though it is nice to have text updates alongside the video feed as they tend to give more context, they are certainly not the first thing that I'd like to have and I question Twitter as the choice for medium (though it never hurts to have them copied there).

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

I read it somewhere, looking for the source now. But anyway, they did it for the static fire the previous week, so guessing they'll use the same setup for the launch.

You can find the presskit here. Bottom of the first post.

ETA: Which now that I re-read it on page 3 says the launch will be webcast live. Doesn't say it will be in HD, but since the static fire was, we can assume it will be.

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Press Kit: NASA/SpaceX Launch and Mission To Station, COTS 2 [WARNING: 33 page PDF]

Webcast confirmed:
The launch will be webcast live, with commentary from SpaceX corporate headquarters in
Hawthorne, CA, at www.spacex.com.
The webcast will begin approximately 40 minutes before launch.

The PDF contains what has already been announced, with more details, if anyone is interested in reading. I'm particularly hopeful for that part:
On this mission, Dragon will be recovered by ship. Long term, once SpaceX has
proven the ability to control reentry accurately, we intend to add deployable landing gear to touch down on land.

And it features a cargo manifest that measures laptops in kilograms!

A press kit? really? ya don't say!:)

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

Ok, on with it already!

Patience, my friend. This launch has been delayed for almost an entire year. A few more days wait is nothing. :)

Re: SpaceX is a go for April 30th: 1st commercial launch to space stat

^hopefully it is only a few more days. I am really looking forward to SpaceX increasing their flight rate above once every other year.
