Possibly more suited for general Sci-fi but I've often wondered how realistic the space scenes are in Star Trek?
Now I'm not an expert in astronomy but with the closests to our own being Alpha Centauri only 4.5 LY away, I'm assuming here that the minimum distance between all stars would have to be around 2 to 3 light years apart meaning that instead of light sparkles around a Starship we should at least be seeing nearby stars around a couple of light years away but we don't. Even light sources on a Starships are hard to explain as we don't see any nearby stars.
So what should a space scene really look like?
