I'm listening to the soundtrack now...it's simply beautiful.
Clearly, there are some big-time Yamato/Star Blazers fans participating in this thread. My question (which is more tech-related) is, is there a link available to a website in which we can find Yamato's vital statistics (tonnage, length, height, width, crew, weaponry, etc) as a space-going future battleship?

The Argo/Yamato was the first Earth Space Battleship design to utilize the wave motion source of power. It incorporates tremendous wave motion powered shock cannons and is the first earth vessel to use the focused energizing beam wave motion cannon this class also carried a large number of missile launchers and anti-battlecraft rapid fire laser turrets.
An innovative feature on the Argo/Yamato was the incorporation of four hanger decks, which allowed for a large compliment of battlecraft and support craft. These craft have retractable components for more efficient storage. The ship was also adapted for underwater propulsion and has expandable side wings for atmospheric flight capability.

That strikes me as odd. Even in the Star Blazers version, the ship was explicitly the WWII battleship Yamato refitted and renamed, and that battleship belonged to the Yamato class. So calling it "Argo class" seems an unnecessary retcon.
Race: Earth
I don't think I need to explain why that's an even odder turn of phrase.
Remember, "Space Cruiser Yamato" was renamed "Star Blazers" when it hit the American market, and Yamato was renamed the Argo.
Presumably, the Star Blazers Warship Technical Manual Recognition Guide incorporates Gamilon and Comet Empire ships as well, much like the Jane's Information Group does with their various recognition guides. I don't know for certain as I have not seen the SBWTMRG, but that seems the rational explanation.

Yes, I know. I said as much in the post you just responded to, when I said it had been "refitted and renamed." But even in Star Blazers, we were explicitly told that the ship had been the Yamato before it was converted into a spaceship and rechristened Argo. They renamed the ship to something more US-friendly, but they didn't deny its history as a Japanese battleship. So even in the context of Star Blazers, it seems more logical to call it Yamato class.

Do you mean for "Race: Earth?" No, that's not a rational explanation, because Earth is the name of a planet, not a "race." The race is human. Perhaps if they'd used "Nation" rather than "Race," it would make more sense to use "Earth," since they did have a united Earth government at that time.

I didn't write the book. I merely offered possible explanations, not only for you but for people viewing this thread.
If you wanna quibble with them over the meaning of "race", you should take it up with the authors...I'm perfectly content with the vital stats of this fictional space battleship as submitted.
^I don't understand why you'd take my criticisms as somehow personally directed at you. I'm talking to you about the material written by others. There's no reason to get defensive about that. I don't think either one of us has any actual stake in this topic, so let's just relax and keep it friendly.
Nothing for Italy, too. Damn. I hope someone will pick it for distribution. Here's more foreign release announcements...still no word on a US date...yet.

I am relaxed and friendly. And in my last line, I explained that I was perfectly content with the vital stats of Yamato/Argo as submitted by the ever-helpful Lynn Minmei. Therefore, there was no need to talk to me about the material written by others, especially if you're going to talk down to me about how wrong you perceived my rational explanation to be (which certainly fits the bill for a personally directed criticism, dontchathink?
Space Battleship Yamato knocked out of #1 spot by the new Kamen Rider and Tron Legacy. She dropped to #4 right behind Potter with a loss of 40.4%. Ouch.
