Space Battleship Yamato 2202

Looks like the Battle of Saturn is happening early this time around

One thing I've noticed is that they're keeping Gatlantis under wraps. I can't believe they've changed the design too much; unless it's been radically upsized. According to my old Perfect Manual the original Gatlantis was 12 kilometers by 15 kilometers, although it never appeared that big onscreen; seeing as it could land in the Pacific Ocean and not touch bottom. The only difference I have seen so far is Zordar's throne room.

It has been radically upsized. Episode 12 has Yamato getting a partial scan of the thing in the center of the White Comet. Its about the size of Mars.

Funimation is doing a dub of Yamato 2202 and Churchyroll is doing a sub of Yamato 2202. I imagine they will only do half the series since it won't be finished in Japan until at least the end of the year, if not January on next year.

Both just finished their runs of Yamato 2199 last week. DVD/BD with English subs/dubs will be out this Summer.
Starting with the first half of the series.

I think that means it's a streaming download, as opposed to a physical storage medium like a disc. It's all the rage with the kids these days.

Judging by the "Top Secret" 1/1000 scale model displayed at a recent Japanese model festival. I can say the we are going to be seeing more than one of the Yamato type battleships in the very near future. Also with probably a more eclectic set of Earth warships (variety of paint jobs.)

Weird...it looks like one of those hybrid designs I've seen on Pinterest. Looks like a carrier Yamato variant similar to those new Andromeda carriers like the Apollo or Antares. Or maybe it's the Musashi? There's also an Andromeda variant out there with a Yamato-esque two-tone paint job.

Now, I haven't seen any 2202 episodes yet...are these actual ships that appear in the new season or conjectural fan-made designs that have made their way into the show's soft-canon? Many of them look almost indistinguishable from official design sources.

Musashi and the Yamato painted Andromeda are highly likely to show up either in Chapter 5 or afterwards in Yamato 2202.

Musashi was in the Yamato Resurrection film from 2009 (the director's cut version only). Which is sent around the Earth year 2220. So if this she appears in Yamato 2202, that mean it will probably also survive, like Yamato does.

Apollo Norm is canon of course.

Well, that's a lot of Gamilas/Dessler backstory suddenly. Don't know all of what is going on.

Gamilas has very Prussian roots it seems. At some point it condensed into a solid Empire, but not while Dessler was a child.
The man with the beard that was going to draw his sword on child Albert appear to be the previous rules of Gamilas, Dessler's uncle ERICH VON DESSLER .
The younger man is Dessler's older brother MATHIUS DESSLER, who was his uncle's best military commander and in line to take over as leader of the Grand Duchy (that that time) of Gamilas) The was killed in battle around the time Dessler was a young teenager.
Kiman is more than likely Mathius's son, thus Dessler's nephew. She was likely pregnate with Kiman when Mathuis died.
(Side note: Dessler's mother is being played by the actress that tends to voice Maetel in Galaxy Express 999)

Edit:

The old "patrol cruiser" seems to be more of a destroyer leader this time around with a length of 113.6 meters long. However its armed with something called a "Wave Spray Gun".

The old "Twin-deck carrier" is quite clearly the fleet flagship at 1,240 meters long. It appears to carry 80 of those sword shaped fighter, called "Eaters" I think. Can pierce Earth shielding.

Funny how
...the original Dessler was supposed to be more of an indictment against US imperialism in the post-WWII world (Matsumoto was a rabid Japanese nationalist who hated what America did to his country) and this new version goes right for the good old safe Space Nazi trope.

Oh, well... It's still good watching.

The last trailer for Chapter 5, introducing the ending theme song.

From the official site:

Yamato has sunk. Earth’s Wave-Motion fleet suffered a devastating blow and seems to have lost the battle against the mighty Gatlantis. But that was a mere overture for that unprecedented war that begins now.

The Yamato-class ship Galaxy sets off, a new ship that inherits Yamato’s will. Beside her is the grand fleet of Garmillas that once fought against Earth. Against Gatlantis’ overwhelming numbers, the allied forces of Earth and Garmillas make their stand by a huge production increase in the time fault factory. It is a war of attrition between colliding forces.

In order to carry out a ruthless strategy planned by AI, Kato’s blackbird flies off in search of a place to die…

What is Galaxy’s real mission, and what is the “G Plan” for human survival? What is the attitude of Dessler after returning to Garmillas? And has Yamato really sunk? Watch closely the fateful destiny awaiting Kodai and Yuki!

Episode 19: The successor of Yamato, the name is Galaxy
Episode 20: Cursed children of Gatlantis
Episode 21: Escape from a nightmare!!
Episode 22: Confronting fate!

Looks like the 'Top Secret' pictures posted earlier are correct and it's the resurrected Musashi, renamed Galaxy, if the cover art that was released today is anything to go by.
