Space Battleship Yamato 2202

Has anyone dug into this to know if the Trek III plot was lifted or the similarity is just a coincidence? I've always wondered about it...

Regardless, I think both stories are very effective in tugging at the heartstrings.

Speaking of Dessler:

Comes to Japanese theaters on May 27th. Blu-ray to be released on June 22nd.

Maybe you checked already when you were there but the big electronic stores usually have toy sections where you can find some good Yamato stuff.
I went to a shopping district that was primarily electronic stores. I forgot the name of it, but they had a bar there with women dressed like French maids. That area is where I found the Cosmo Tiger. I'm going back to Japan next year so hopefully I will find something interesting.

It appears that Yamato 2202 (aka Star Blazers 2202) will be coming to Funimation and Crunchyroll this spring (well as much as it can, since as of today there are only 14 episodes out of 26 released). Funimation with an English dub while Chrunchyroll will have just English subtitles.

Honestly, I prefer subtitles. The dubbing may be better than average, but even if one doesn't understand Japanese, you can still get more of the emotional quality in the native performance than when it's overdubbed, IMO.

This brings up an interesting question then - if officially licensed subtitling is going to be done for CrunchyRoll, does that mean DVD and BRD releases will be made available with the same? Streaming is good for convenience when broadband is available, but I prefer cold hard plastic on my shelf.

If they do a North American (or wherever) DVD or BR release it will probably have subtitles. But the Japanese discs still will not. I expect the Chapter Seven to come out around January of 2019.
