Barges are used to tow derelict ships. The Botany Bay is a derelict ship. Could they be any more obvious?

Maybe its the part of the interior of the Botany Bay. The whole thing has an industrial, late-20th century look to it.

I understand what you're saying...
...but how do we know what NuTrek's version of Khan looks like? Who's to say that Khan is even of Indian Descent in this version.

The British have a long-standing relationship with India due to their colonial past. I've said before that this Khan is perhaps of British descent, but was raised in the Indian culture (or they could go a different direction completely, but I personally would like to see them keep some sort of "Indian angle" to Khan.)

Having said that, I have no reason to believe that Cumberbatch is playing Khan, either. I'm just saying you can't necessarily go by looks.

What would be the point of having the main cast mostly look a bit like the originals and then changing Khan's race? Might as well go Starbuck and make him a woman.

Lord, we have this conversation before. Trek could reimagine Harry Mudd as the next UFP president, but most of us wouldn't buy it. Kor could be a benevolent Klingon looking for peace between the federation and the empire instead of the warrior/dictator that he was, but that ain't going to happen either.

The only thing we know that's not going to happen? That embarrassing scene in Plato's Stepchildren where Alexander is riding Kirk's back.

Well I take it theres a clue to them filming the sequence outdoors so as to have the wind machines in use and so on. Decompression somewhere aboard the barge? greenscreens showing a large badly damaged section of hull in the background?
