Sorry ladies, bad news...

Congratulations!

May you both have health, happiness and the friendship to weather anything that comes your way. :)

Thanks All! Hasn't really settled in yet that it's all happening (no date set yet, no wedding plans other than probably early fall 2010-ish), haven't gotten used to saying Fiance yet, etc...

Congrats!!!

Eh, I'll be fine as long as Aaron Douglas and Gerard Butler are still single. :D
If that falls through, I could talk to the gf about making it a Mormon ceremony for you ;)

Hey, congratulations! That's great. It sounds like it went the way you imagined, which is important when popping the question...the "surprise" factor is the way to go!
Yep, went more or less the way I was hoping. Sadly the big christmas tree was kinda sorrier-looking than I had hoped for, but we've agreed to just edit that part out of the story when it's retold. :p

That's fantastic news! Congrats! Were you nervous at all?
Nope, she'd been hinting like crazy about it for a while, so not like there was any chance she said no. Eliminates most of the nervousness right there!

I've known several people who ordered engagement rings online and they have all had good experiences, though they were meticulous in their research. We know several jewelers, one with really good prices, so my husband purchased my ring there.
Blue Nile was a great experience, and after pricing out some comparable stuff at regular stores (Kay, Jared, Zales, etc), you can't beat the deal. The diamond alone would have cost a fortune at a regular store (it's a 1-carat princess cut, F color, VS1 Clarity, etc). They didn't even have anything like that pre-set in the stores, and the loose gem similar to what I got was like $9k the one place I looked...

Are the two of you probably going to have a large wedding, or a smaller one?
Probably big-ish. She's only got one sibling (a brother), so her dad only has to spring for one wedding, which helps. He's also a doctor, so money isn't much of an object, within reason. I've got a pretty big family on my side as well, so that should make a decent list once we get through all of the 'required' guests and bring a few friends along as well...

Congratulations!

Learn when to say the following and you'll have a long, successful marriage:

Yes, dear.

Whatever you say, sweetheart.

Whenever you're ready.

Will save you a lot of headache down the road.

Yeah, I started her on that pretty early. What really gets her is that I usually just do that to mock her. It infuriates her, because she can't get mad at me and continue a fight when I'm verbally agreeing with what she is saying! "Yes dear, I'm sure you're right" :p

Congrats, that is wonderful news.

I asked my wife to marry me at the restaurant we had our first date in. We got the same table, and after dinner, I asked her. She started crying! She never answered the question, so I had to ask her again. She finally said yes, and the whole restaurant applauded. It was really special.

Home and can use photobucket now, so here's the stock photo for the ring, at least (I can't get one zoomed in enough and still looking all sparkly). That the diamond was oriented the other way rather than the normal squared-off orientation was a big eye-catcher for me...

December 31st 2006. In bed with my g/f and she's wonder why I keep looking at the clock.

Midnight
me "I have a question for you"
her "yes?"
me pulls out ring "will you marry me?"
her "yes" and bursts into tears :)

We got married on January 12th this year and had some luck with the weather. Adelaide had it's hotest summer on record and much of late December/early January it was in the high 30s C but for the day it was just right (about 26C)

Small gathering (About 22 people) but the only bummer was she had to fly back to Canada a few days afterwards but now my immigration application has been approved end of Feburary I fly out to be with her.

and because no-one in family could make it, we're having another ceremony in September next year.

Congratulations!

My one piece of advice when it comes to organising the wedding is remember that it's your day not anyone else's. Piss off your family if you have to, but don't let anyone dictate to you how things have to be. That leads to a stressful wedding - a wedding where it's all how you want it is a happy one :)

We didn't get engaged. We were planning our summer holiday and mr trampledamage looked at me and said "you know, we could make this our honeymoon." So we did :techman:

Congrats.......SUCKER!!

Anywho, to keep this thread from being a few 'congrats' posts, followed by a quick death, thought I'd open it up a bit, and see if people wanted to share engagement stories...

All I have to say is, "Never do tequila shots within a country mile of a wedding chapel..."

ha! like i said, been dating for 3 years, and she lives with me, so no real danger of 'rushing into' anything. Plus, we're both the oldest child of our parents, so gotta let them have their fun, being their first children to marry off, etc.

Congratulations and good luck, Scout. :bolian:

And thanks for getting off the market. :rommie:

I haven't been single in a while, I shouldn't have been cramping your style much! I suppose there's a few girls that were holding out hope that will now have to dive back in, so you've got that going for you... :p
