Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

It comes from the Iluminerdi, and I see that name a lot, but I can never remember how trustworthy a source they are.

I'd be fine with Keanu in the role, but I am tired of solo villain movies from Sony. We know they own the rights to some of the spinoff heroes/anti heroes connected to Spider-Man. Just do that damn Slver Sable/Black Cat film they had been talking about, or do Spider-Gwen or Scarlet Spider or live action Miles Morales or even Jackpot.

Venom they could justify (although I think the movie wasn't great, being hurt by a bad script and really hurt by not having a direct Spider-Man connection), but between Morbius and now possibly Kraven its getting really stupid. Not every character can make a good solo movie, especially villains.

I think if Morbius doesn't do well they'll probably rethink giving every Spider-Man villain their own movie. Venom is well known enough to bring in an audience even if the film wasn't great, but characters like Morbius and Kraven don't have that advantage. I get that Sony is desperate for some film money that they don't have to split with Disney, but they're making really bad choices on what to make into films when they have enough choices left to do some potentiallydecent stuff.

I think he fits the look fine, assuming he bulks up just a bit which shouldn't be a problem at all. I'm less confident he fits the role, but then my exposure to Kraven is limited, anyway, so maybe he's fine there, too.

For once I completely agree. It just seems strange to me that they're so obssessed with the villains. I would go with Silver and Black, or even the Jackpot movie long before someone like Kraven. I really have no interest in a movie about a big game hunter, and if Spider-Man or another hero isn't involved in the movie, that's really all a Kraven movie could be.

Or at least, switch on and off; one hero movie, one villain movie, one hero move, one villain movie.

I think that in the comics Spidey tends to occupy his own bubble (still part the Marvel universe, obviously - the Spiderverse is still part of the Marvel multiverse) so Sony making related movies in their own bubble seems a good fit. But it can't just be villains.

There's Spidey, Spider Woman, Spider Gwen, Silk, Scarlet Spider, a bunch of alternate universe Spidey's and ?

Which other heroes does Sony have the rights to ? Are any of them not spider totem related ? And how about Spider U.K. ? He's a spidey AND a Captain Britain.

I think most of the characters they're building spinoffs around are more in the antihero or ambiguous-villain category. Venom was a villain who was turned into a "dark avenger" kind of antihero, Morbius is a tortured soul who struggles against his vampirism (I think), and Kraven is an honorable figure in his way, and has occasionally been portrayed in a positive light (at least in Squirrel Girl).

The might not be full on evil, but I still think it would have made more sense for them to go with more full on hero characters, like one of the Spider-Women.

It looks like Sony and Amazon Prime are going the Marvel / Netflix route. Into the spider verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are bringing Silk to Amazon Prime. Jupiter's Legacy executive producer Sang Kyu Kim has been tapped as showrunner and chilling Adventures of Sabrina actor Adelene Rudolph has had meetings with Miller and Lord concerning the lead role.

With the multiverse stuff coming up, Sony should produce a full Miles Morales movie with the character set in his own world and then, based on the success of the movie, produce sequels from there.

Venom 2 trailer just came out

Are they trying to turn Venom into Deadpool or something? The attempts at humor were very incongruous and didn't work for me at all. Not that I'm a fan of Venom in the first place, but I think the character works best when the symbiote is frightening, a monster barely kept under control.
