Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

^ This "angry Marvel fan" boycott nonsense is worse because it's so divorced from reality that it makes the current U.S. Presidential administration's "alternative facts" behavior seem tame by comparison.

Railing against corporations, especially Hollywood ones, is in vogue though

^ The thing is, this yo-yo is citing completely BS ideas as part of his or her "logic" for boycotting the film.

It's like trying to organize a boycott against Microsoft because you think their computers are brainwashing you.

It's that level of crazy talk, and is dangerous because there are people out there who are just crazy enough themselves to believe it and go along with trying to boycott the movie.

That won't change them though. They are used to being sidelined like that.

I saw this in front of Black Panther today and for a teaser it didn't tease me enough. Nothing really intrigued me at all. But then Venom doesn't do much for me at all. I never really got into him at all. Maybe the full trailer will give me something.

The person calling for this boycott is an idiot, and sadly could get other idiots to follow their lead.

It's true that Avi Arad is producing the movie and that he pushed for Venom to be included in Spider-Man 3 and that the appearance that resulted from his pushing him to be in it generally at-best underwhelmed viewers, both general viewers and fans of the character.

Meh, Silver and Black has felt like a weird "What do we have we can use" project to me from the start, so let's assume the hold means we'll either get a better movie later or none at all. It can really only be for the best either way. Maybe Sony don't want to WB it on this one. ;)

...Also, I'm not sure why boycotting a movie makes you stupid. There are heaps of movies I refuse to go see.

With Silver and Black, I felt the least opposed to it. But mostly because I think Silver Sable can be fairly standalone and, if she comes across Felicia Hardy doing her cat burglar thing, that would be fine too. There's no Spider-Man baggage compared to Venom (who not only has his origin directly tied to Spider-Man, he also resembles Spider-Man).

That being said, there were so many rumors of supporting characters or villains I did not want to be used in this side project. I was fine with Mendel Stromm as a villain. Chameleon could be fine (I was 50/50 on that). But I had bigger problems with Scorpion and Tombstone. Both have potential in an actual Spider-Man movie.

Sony should resurrect their Aunt May: The Movie idea. Two Oscar winning Aunt Mays in a row and still no standalone movie, get a clue Sony and make it happen.

Only if they do it with all three actresses who've played her (Harris was also nominated for an Oscar). One of those multiple Earths stories. :D

Production on Silver and Black, which was supposed to start next week, has been indefinitely delayed.

I hope that this is a temporary problem. Out of all the Sony Spider-verse movies that were in the planning stages, for some reason this was the one that I was looking the most forward to.

Hmm, I was actually kind of curious about this one. I'm not going to be upset if it never comes back, but I wouldn't mind getting to see it.

Well, the rumor was that Michael Mando's Mac Gargan from Homecoming was going to get his Scorpion armor in S&B before returning as the Scorpion for the HC sequel. As for Tombstone, I can see them likewise developing him of for future appearances in a Spider-movie. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if of these side movies are being made for the sake of laying the groundwork for future Spider-movies.

And if there's one thing Sony have proven they are good at with the Spidey universe, it's laying groundwork. :shifty:
