Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

I just saw a trailer for an animated Spider-man film in which Miles Morales is the web crawler. So . . . no live action film for Miles? How chicken shit.

The MCU will probably make a live action Miles Morales Spider-Man in the not-too-distant future, depending on how long they can keep Tom Holland around. And assuming they continue this co-production agreement with Sony. And assuming Sony's film division doesn't finally fall apart by then and the rights just completely revert to Marvel.

And Homecoming confirmed that Miles exists in the MCU. One thing at a time. You can't have it all yesterday.

Miles will only show up in live-action if Sony wants to use him, and they clearly don't, at least right now and for the foreseeable future.

Wow, I think this is the first movie based on a character I have never heard of.
This is literally my only familiarity with the character:

I only know MM from articles clamoring for him so I’m fine with Peter Parker but I wonder if the success of Black Panther might not change opinion to the ones controlling the purse strings.

^ I'm going to be "that guy" and note that it's awful convenient that Comic Book Movie says that there's this rumor going around and yet fails to provide a source for said rumor.

Hey! That's usually my job! :p

But, yeah, no source or even attempt of a "source" makes it seem awfully fishy.

On the other hand, it's not that uncommon for a horror movie (and that's basically how they're approaching this, I gather) to keep the monster largely unseen until the climax. So it's not an entirely implausible rumor, though perhaps it's exaggerating the brevity of the final reveal.

If there is little to no Venom in the Venom movie that will legitimately be both the stupidest and potentially most unintentionally hilarious fuck up a superhero movie has done in years. It would dwarf even Fant4stic, which at least did reshoots to add a bit more action type stuff. I really hope they do barely show Venom. If a movie is going to be a trainwreck, it should go completely off the rails.

I'm honestly more interested in seeing a trainwreck movie that barely has any of the title character then I am to watch the crap movie that shows a bunch of Venom (I haven't even bothered to watch the Venom trailer because I just don't give a crap), which is probably just as likely an outcome at this point. Its not going to be a good movie regardless, so whatever makes it a bigger disaster will be more interesting to me.

Glad to hear it. I could understand there not being a ton of the symbiote in the movie, but it did seem hard to believe there'd be as little as the rumors were saying.

I figured all along that the rumors were exaggerating. Internet fandom has a perennial tendency to take isolated bits and blow them up into absurdly melodramatic worst-case scenarios. If a movie holds off on showing its monster to build suspense, it's bound to get blown up to "AAAAAAH THE MONSTER'S ONLY IN THE LAST 30 SECONDS OF THE FILM AAAAAHHH!!!1!"

I dunno if you could call it an outright denial. He uses the word "usually" twice. He's certainly implying it, but I see no outright denial. But then, I never bought into the idea that the suit would only appear at the absolute very end either. I won't be surprised if the truth is right between the two extremes. Unless there are some last minute re-shoots. ;)
