Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

If this really starts shooting in the fall, I wonder if they might put it in Venom's release date next October, and delay that one.

I hope we don't get too many more story leaks on this one, I don't need to know the whole damn story a year before the movie comes out.

Silver and Black lands a release date, February 8, 2019.

From a larger MCU/Spider-Man standpoint, It will be released in-between Spidey's appearances in Avengers 3 and 4, one month before Captain Marvel and about six months before the Homecoming sequel.

There's a bit of information that I seem to have previously overlooked in this article; Silver and Black is being written by Christopher Yost, who whose MCU cred includes Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnrok. He also wrote the "Fury's Big Week" crossover comic, the Next Avengers animated movie and is the co-creator of X-23.

It would seem that Sony is open to using Marvel talent on more than just the main Spider-Man movies, which I feel can only be a good thing.:techman:

A month before Captain Marvel??? Seems almost TOO soon, and could dilute audiences... Well,we will see... I am just worried they're banking too many choices on Wonder Woman's success

2019 will be a big year for female-led genre projects in general. Silver and Black, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman 2, Star Wars Ep 9, and hopefully, we'll still have Sonequa Martin-Green And Jodie Whittaker leading Star Trek and Doctor Who.

That would be exciting. I've been hoping for the Chameleon to show up since the first Spider-Man movie.

Every time I see this thread title, I keep envisioning all the former live-action Spider-Men from different universes going up against the Inheritors. Think they could get Nicholas Hammond back? Who was in the suit for "The Electric Company"?

Wait, what?!?

Today's rumor is... interesting. Who the hell is Nightwatch?:wtf::shrug:

Apparently, he's this guy.

I actually had to Google him. The only comics I've ever read with him in were in the "Blue File" story of Charles Soule's She-Hulk run (which is apparently the only story with him that can be confirmed to have "really" happened.:wtf::lol:)

This is the project they want Spike Lee for? Why is Sony already scraping the bottom of an already shallow barrel?

Is it just me, or is Nightwatch a really obvious clone of Spawn, at least visually? The Marvel wiki image is just about as close to Spawn as you can get without getting sued

As for the character himself, I read the She-Hulk issue he was in and I still don't remember him (and I generally have a very good memory for obscure superhero characters). It seems really weird to be doing a full movie with him. I mean, there are a bunch of z-list Spider-Man allies they could do, from Prowler to the heroic Green Goblin, so it seems weird to pick Nightwatch. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Sony, all these desperate grasps at movies barely related to Spider-Man all to get a few more dollars really makes them seem a bit pathetic.

There can be benefits to using an obscure character. It's basically a blank slate that you can do whatever you want with and not have to worry about prior continuity. After all, most of the audience for a feature film won't be comics readers anyway, since a successful comic has maybe on the order of 10,000 readers and a successful big-budget movie can have an audience a thousand times that size. So it won't matter if the character is well-known in comics or not. All that matters is whether its potential can be developed into an effective movie. A number of comics characters have been more prominent in adaptations than in the originals, e.g. Peggy Carter, William Stryker, Felicity Smoak, Cisco Ramon, etc.

The latest rumor courtesy of That Hashtag Show brings Norman Osborn into Silver and Black... sort of. If the rumor pans out we will only hear Osborn's voice while Oscorp's interests in the film are represented by an employee named Charles Standish.
How is The Hashtag Show constantly getting all of these stories about upcoming movies? Do they just do stories on every random rumor, or do they have some really good connections that are constantly leaking stuff to them?
