I dunno if its because of the old DVD special deluxe editions from back in 2002 and 2003, i noticed that tv channels like Sy Fy or the MGM sphere channel on regular tv cable or on slingtv, that they always air the extended version of Star Trek II where they include the hallway discussion between Spock and Kirsty Alley's character about Kirk.

I remember back in the day when Star Trek II was on HBO in the early 1980s and for VHS, the movie never had that scene in the first place.

but now these days due to certain DVDs that were released years ago, tv channels tend to air from time to time extended versions of movies like Star Trek to even Billy Madison

Are you talking about Spock and Saavik in the torpedo bay speaking in Vulcan about Kirk? If so, that's always been there since the theatrical cut.

What you may be thinking of is after the landing party beams back to the ship, there's an added scene in the extended cuts where Kirk and Spock are talking as they climb the ladders between decks because the turbolifts are out. That was not in the theatrical cut but was added back in later.

no im not talking about the landing party.

its the hallway talk with Saavik and Spock. that was added for the 2002-2003 dvd deluxe special editon. that was never in the original theatrical movie.

i dont mind some tv channels or even streaming apps showing extended versions, at the same time its weird seeing only the extended version of a movie that gets shown way too much on tv or on streaming apps..

Even on amazon prime when they show original Naked Gun, at times they edit the whole scene of Frank outside of the building with the statues. sometimes they show that, sometimes they dont. then they go right next to the scene of the mayor talking about last night's incident.

so dont effin tell me that im wrong.

that scene of Saavik and Spock was never in the original version of Star Trek II

I've noticed this sometimes too. I wonder if they do it because it's the highest quality available to them. Or is it just a trend these days? I don't mind it too much but if I'm seeing a movie for the first time I usually prefer to see the original cut of the film.

I've seen every version of TWOK there is, and I don't know what hallway scene you're referring to. The only discussion between Saavik and Spock regarding Kirk takes place after the crew is dismissed after the inspection of the torpedo bay. This conversation is in all the versions of the film (Theatrical, TV and all of the various home video releases).

Is this the scene you're talking about?

This screenshot is from the theatrical cut DVD release that came out in 2000.
yes that is the scene i am talking about. it was never in the original theatrical version of the movie back then.

that scene popped up in a huge deal for the 2002-2003 DVD special deluxe editions. PERIOD. it was never ever in the old movie back then in the 1980s

i just think its weird that tv channels and even on streaming apps they constantly show like extended versions of movies or at times edit scenes like the statue moment in Naked gun whenever its airing on one of the Amazon Prime Video LIve channels

That scene was in the version I first saw saw on VHS in the 1980s. Perhaps it was omitted from the version released in your country. Or perhaps you have misremembered. Conflation of memories happens.

Yeah, that scene has been every official version of the movie ever. If some local channel edited it out for some reason -- okay. But that's been in there since 1982 day one. It wasn't "added" in at any point. It may have been "edited out" at some point for some odd reason. It's freaking 4 lines of dialogue that would save about 10 seconds of screen time for goodness sake.

Saw the movie 5 times in 1982 (little embarrassing), bought the VHS in the 80s (expensive), bought the laserdisc in the 90s (expensive), bought the first DVD in 2000 (price not bad) and it was always in there. The 2002 2-disc DVD added 3 min 30 seconds of footage that was first seen in the 1985 TV broadcast but that scene was not a new addition.

I'm not alone in that? Good to hear! I do feel better.
4 times opening weekend? -- impressive. I actually saw Treks 1 and 2 so many times because I didn't know that home video was a thing that was coming in 1979 and 1982. I thought the only time I'd ever see them again was on TV all cut up with tons of commercials. By the time of TUC I think I "only' saw it 3 times in theater.

Hey, let’s take a chill pill here. You didn’t remember a scene. Let’s keep things cool, okay?

I can break out my VHS copy from the 1980's and show you the scene if you would like.

Also the first DVD that came out on June 21, 2000 (prior to the 2002-03 timeframe claimed) is still on sale at amazon for $10. I bought that one hoping it included the "ABC TV" scenes -- but alas it didn't.
It wasn't until Aug of 2002 that the Director's Cut finally came out in an official release.

They released the films in reverse order on single disk on DVD. Then starting with the Director's Edition of TMP they worked their way up with the deluxe edition double disks.

I hung onto my single TWOK because it had the theatrical edition on it.
