Some Shows Just Won't Die

While the name of the show hasn't been revealed, Michael Ausiello at TVLine is reporting that a series that announced its end within the last 12 months... may not be over. Some actors are negotiating a new season or TV movies. What could it be?

The only two I can think of off the top of my head are:

The Closer
Smallville

Yeah, I bet on Smallville. Though last I heard, Tom Welling wasn't willing to stick around.

but lets fancy - if the smallville viewers who post on Trekbbs are anything to go by - people don't want him to stick around anyway.

On cable, there are long-running shows like The Closer, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Big Love and Entourage who say they're ending.

^ Maybe he's in negotiations to kick off his movie career by taking over Cheaper by the Dozen 3. Imagine how much money they could trim from the budget by dropping Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff and Piper Perabo, and making Welling the lead!

It's probably Heroes. Ugh.

Heroes would be a great choice, as long as Tim Kring stays far away from it. Bring in someone competent like Bryan Fuller and reboot the frak out of the whole thing. It's still a great premise, it just needs to be executed competently.

The only show I'd like it to be is Caprica, but there isn't a hope on Gemenon that that could be the case.

I could see it being The Closer. It has good ratings for TNT and is only ending because Kyra Sedgwick decided 7 seasons was enough for her. They could either do a series of tv movies or they could replace her with Mary McDonnell who's had a recurring role on that show for a couple of seasons now.

I doubt it's Heroes. It's probably a show that's currently on the air. It could be Smallville renamed Metropolis (which they probably should've done several years ago).

Where else would he go?

He's directed a few episodes of Smallville so he could go into directing.

Supernatural is also ending this year.

Ages ago I posted a hypothetical thread about Smallville being rebranded as a legit Superman show after its 10th year, with the final Smallville year being the one where Clark embraced his destiny, donned the suit, and took his place as the Superman we know and love. Would be funny if that actually happened.

Still, having said that, with a new Superman film currently in the works would Warner want a Superman TV series, or TV movies running at the same time as a feature film? They'd be worried about spreading the character too thin, or "confusing the audience" (whatever that means) with more than one Superman.

I'd be inclined to think along the lines of Supernatural rather than Smallville. Depending on the outcome of S6, a few bigger budget direct-to-DVD movies that weren't restricted by TV standards could be quite cool.

I wouldn't mind another season of Smallville, as long as Clark is Superman for the whole season, and he actually looks (and acts) like the Man of Steel.

Supernatural was my first thought too. What's the status on that? I heard rumblings of a 7th season a few weeks or months ago.

As for another season of Smallville, I'd say "no thanks", but would accept one if they went into full-on Superman mode with Michael McKean as Perry White and Michael Rosenbaum returning.
