Some Shows Just Won't Die

On cable, there are long-running shows like The Closer, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Big Love and Entourage who say they're ending.

I could see it being The Closer. It has good ratings for TNT and is only ending because Kyra Sedgwick decided 7 seasons was enough for her. They could either do a series of tv movies or they could replace her with Mary McDonnell who's had a recurring role on that show for a couple of seasons now.

I think this might be it too. The Closer has just finished their sixth season with their best ratings yet, and McDonnell can certainly carry a show. They could even promote Sedgwick's character and have her show up from time to time.

Supernatural is also ending this year.
Supernatural's fate hasn't been decided yet, so the blind item can't be about it. Where did you hear that this season would be the last?

Probably in my own head, then. I remember hearing somewhere that Ackles and Padaleki were only contracted for 6 seasons, and that they weren't into the idea of dragging the series out beyond that, especially now Kripke's gone. I guess somewhere in my head over the last year or so, that has made me think we aren't gonna get a 7th season. I hadn't read much about the show since the middle of last year, so I didn't know that another season was a possibility.

I guess it's just me hoping that they don't drag the show out for too long, which is what tends to happen a lot in the American TV industry.

I'd still love to see a few Supernatural feature-length episodes with a bigger budget though. Smallville has run it's course as-is, so they'd need to go full-on Superman to keep my interest beyond S10, but I can't see them doing TV movies featuring Superman when there's a big screen outing in the works already. Another season? Maybe, but as I said, it'd have to be all or nothing.

Smallville has been having 11th season rumors since at least October, IIRC.

L&O: CI seems plausible, too, since D'Onofrio was coming back for the (supposedly) final season.

24 also seems maybe possible, considering the film doesn't seem to be working out...

Mary McDonnell taking over The Closer is an intriguing idea, as they have definitely been using her character a lot more...

My money is on Smallville.

24 is an interesting case to think about however. If I remember correctly, a ninth season was seriously considered and was only dropped in favor of ending the series and going to the big screen.

The the first scripts (scripts?) have been rejected, and there was some regrouping.

One thing is for sure. 24 needs to do something soon before the momentum needed for a film or a season is gone. It's possible if they don't get something off the ground Fox will decide to just let the series rest. Sad, because 24 has the potential to be a good film franchise. Not sure what else it can accomplish on television. TV movies might work. Redemption was pretty good.

I think Ackles and Padalecki extended their contracts to a seventh year. I'm not 100% on that, though.

Yes. The actors are contracted through a seventh year, and we'll see if CW has the guts to end both Smallville and Supernatural at the same time.

And edging toward somethign acceptable, does not justify the episodes that came before, in fact it make the decent new ones WORSE, since they are a product of what came before.

I did read the article, and I've been reading Ausiello for a long time now, to him almost anything can be termed a hit or dramatic. He interviews actors and producers all the time, do you think he gets those interviews by telling them their shows stink.

I wouldn't mind another season of Smallville, as long as Clark is Superman for the whole season, and he actually looks (and acts) like the Man of Steel.

In your dreams. The entire point of that show is to stall. stall. STALL. Superman will never appear on the show. I would have thought ten seasons without Superman should have convinced everyone already. I guess not.

So the show getting renewed is... Caprica? :)

Yeah, I think Welling has a long, healthy career to look forward to in Syfy original movies and the direct to video market.

And that isn't a slight. I expect him to live quite well.
