Some question about the Klingons...

Why did Alexander go by the last name of Worf's adopted parents when Worf himself didn't? They did call him Alexander Rozchenko on the show, right? Or is this just something from Trek Lit. or fanfic?
No, it was on the show. Worf remembered his family, remembered being a Klingon child among Klingons. Alexander's mother was half-human and lived among humans, and then he was sent to live with more humans when she died. He tried to make his father happy, but it was pretty clear that he was human at heart.

And, if I remember correctly, Worf was discommodated when Alexander became his responsibility. He would not have wanted to pass the name of a house in dishonor to his son, given the choice.

Discommendated. Discommendated. He's isn't a toilet.
I find that you are correct, now that I have Googled it, but, the word I used doesn't directly have anything to do with a toilet and would not be entirely inappropriate to Worf's situation, either -

discommodate: To render unfit or unsuitable; to fail to treat well; as, to discommodate our guests.

And you have to admit, Worf was treated fairly crappily during all of that. ;)

I was commenting about toilets being called "commodes".
Yes - that was entirely obvious, and the fact that I made a somewhat crappy pun about it should have already indicated to you that your attempt to clarify this for me is unnecessary. :P

But the word "discommodate" is more akin to "accommodate" (its opposite) than it is to the root, commode. Commode literally means "to make convenient", and it's a bit of a euphemism to use it for something that makes elimination convenient, similar to "water closet" or "restroom", without coming right out and saying something as crude as "shitpot". Even the word toilet refers to cleansing oneself, and not to the act of elimination itself.

The thread title and this conversation reminds me of the old joke:

Q. What do the starship Enterprise and toilet paper have in common?

A. They both hang around Uranus searching for Klingons. :klingon:

Most of the Houses' names probably come from the ones who founded the House in the first place, with the name being passed down the line. Like how French and English Kings choose to be renamed when they're crown: Prince Albert becoming King George VI for example.

Martok's House was first Generation, formed by him.

House of Gowron? Odds are he had an ancestor named Gowron that the House is named for.

Duras? Covered.

Mogh? Worf could have changed the name, but chose to keep the ancestral one which probably came not from his Father but from some further ancestor named Mogh.
