Some Kind/Type/Form/Sort Of...

Perfectly fine. It happens.

My wife is watching for the first time, and this will be my... 10th, 11th? I don't know.

But I decided on this fun little game because VOYAGER was especially bad with using those words.

Variant, variety, etc... I don't count those because it's just not ridiculous enough.

Literally, every single episode from the pilot all the way to the beginning of season 4 had someone say the thread title phrase at least once. Some episodes had multiple times. (A really glaring instance was the same person, Tom I believe, uttered it TWICE within 3 sentences. And used it again a minute layer.)

It's been fun so far.

Yes, I've seen a video compendium of the "some kind/sort of..." and it seems to go on forever, it's really impressive.

Now the 8th one... "SURVIVAL INSTINCT". Not surprising, as this was penned by Ronald D. Moore. Always loved this episode... a damn shame he didn't stay on staff.

Me, too. But it was one of the best episodes of the series, obviously in large part due to the huge talents of Robert Picardo.

(Bashir must have been equally embarassed in "IF WISHES WERE HORSES".)

True enough. Fortunately, Dax had been a young man several times, so she took it in stride.

We have the 11th, 12th, and 13th episodes now. "FURY", "MUSE", and "IMPERFECTION" each do not contain the phrase.

Obviously, we won't hit 25 episodes by the end. I doubt we'll even get to 20 without those phrases uttered. (Especially since "REPRESSION" had ALL FOUR different versions of it said by different people. I think that was a first, actually.) But maybe get to 15?

Come on, VOYAGER! You can do it!

Well, 257 days is a year on Venus... maybe for some other Federation worlds as well.

EDIT: You left out "variety"!
Isn't one Venus year 224 days?
And while Earth rotates one leap in 24 hours, Venus takes 243 days for one leap. The word "tomorrow" would have a slightly different meaning on Venus. :)
Venus also has a retrograde rotation so if the Sun was visible from Venus, it would rise in the west and set in the east.

Weird planet, to say the least.

In one of the Voyager books, they visit a somewhat strange planet inhabited by a species called Kirse. When I read that book, I actually imagined that the planet had a retrograde rotation, even if nothing was said about that in the story. I don't know why I got that idea. Just my imagination, I guess.

And number 16! "AUTHOR, AUTHOR" does not use the phrase!

My wife and I only have the finale and the episode before it left to watch, so the count will certainly not reach 20. I guess we'll see if either use it...

We just finished VOYAGER.

The grand total of episides that do NOT use the phrase "some sort/type/form/kind of" is... 16.

That means 156 episodes DID use any of those forms of phrases. Thank you all for letting me share this... endeavor with you. It's been fun!
