I have a Ukrainian student who sounds exactly like that. It's very musical, takes some getting used to, but there's really no need to describe foreign accents using terms like 'wicked witch' or 'ghoul'.

Firstly I would dispute the idea that there is a such thing as sounding "Eastern European" as it's a massive stretch of land full of different countries.
Polish, Lithuanians and Latvians are the biggest ethic minorities in my city and we have plenty of Ukrainians too so I know well what the accents are like having had many friends, flatmates and workmates from those places.
So no I wasn't talking about the accent.
Because everyone from the same planet should sound the same, unless they are human Earthlings.
Well, something about Pelia voice triggered a response from Uhura about identifying Pelia's race, so it must be at least a little bit of a common trait among the Lanthanite's.
Even if it's just the cadence or the fashion and tone in which words are used.

Agreed. I don't have the issue with SNW but have put on subtitles on other shows such as The Expanse and Yellowstone (accents and all).

You have a Ukrainian student that speaks like Pelia? I know Russian and Ukrainian are technically different languages, just common origins, but I was watching SNW Season 2 with a literal Russian who has a heavy Russian accent speaking English herself and she outright said that Pelia sounded like a witch. Really. There's nothing about Carol Kane's performance that's realistic to any Russian/Slavic accent in her opinion. It's Walter Keonig playing Chekov all over again (sorry Walter).

Nothing I guess. I'm just not sure if her voice is necessarily representative of Slavic accents, unless you have tons of Ukrainian friends who speak that way.

I wish they hadn't. All I really hear when she speaks is Simka from Taxi. It's too cutesy by half and it makes Kane's scenes a slog to get through.
But I have a feeling Pike is going to switch chief engineers each season, so I won't have to deal with the wacky voice for much longer.
